Anyone else go to MoveOn.Org's "Bush in 30 Second" tonight in NYC? |
|
Michael Moore, Chuck D, Al Franken, Moby, Jeanine Garafalo, and other semi-famous celebrities! All the great Bush in 30 seconds ads, and not a word about the "Bush = Hitler" controversy!*
Guess which video won - and will be broadcast during the Super Bowl (Thanks to George Soros I'm sure  ) ?
Hey, is "Jonathan Soros" who's on MoveOn's board of directors related to the man himself, George?
Great event, and only $8 for a beer!
* Bush is not Hilter, but you can understand the confusion.

1. George Soros and a couple of hundred thousands little folks |
|
he just matched the first 5 million dollars we donated to moveon.org. And I think it was a 1 for 2 match -- he gave 1 dollar for every 2 donated, but I'm not sure about that.
If I lived in NYC, I'd have been there. It must have been great!

It won both the contest and the People's Choice Award. The runner-up was What Are We Teaching Our Children?

with the dead bodies pulled? On the website it said it was pulled at the maker's request. That had been my favorite. I liked the lie detector ad, but the Child's Play one was good as well.

sharper, less obvious, funnier.
This is why I'm not a judge, nor do I represent the people's choice.

17. All of them were most excellent... |

I thought "What Are We Teaching Our Children?" was better
... but I liked the Child's Pay best because it focused on one issue and chose the issue very well... because money is so dear to American hearts and losing control of what they have earned is so vexatious to them, and also because Americans are always talking about "the children" (i.e. "the children" can't pray in school, "the children" need to be protected from gays, "the children" need better schools, etc.). This video will call the bluff on some of that stuff coming out of the conservative side. The ad is well done also. Visual media needs to have visuals... we can get print and words from the print media... so this was a great use of the medium. Plus, IMO, visuals go right into the brain without the mediation of words, so there isn't this resistance to images as much as words, which can be parsed and examined and tested for so-called "logic." The background music was also pleasant and simple... just a single instrument and an uncomplicated melody. It's certainly tempting to want to throw all we have at Bush and the Republicans when we get the chance, but I think the video creator(s) did a superb job, rose to the creative challenge, and more than met the goals.
I also liked the videos that were chosen for funniest, best animation, and youth division. I did have trouble understanding everything the young man said in the winning youth division video... guess he's a New Yawker who talks really fast! Hope it gets a lot of exposure so by the tenth time people see it they catch everything he's said.
It would have been a thrill to be there, I know, just to be among so many people all rooting for the same ideals. I do envy those who were able to attend.

8. Child's Pay is *really* *really* good |
|
Visually, it's beautiful, and as far as production values go, better than half of what you see on commerical TV. "Teaching" was hilarious though, I admit. So many good videos...

I'm still wired... fun meeting 'stranger and symbolman, but fooey on moveon for not asking Sterling to stand up for some applause so I could recognize him! Hey Sterling, if you're out there - I got a tape for ya! PM or something.

7. The Superbowl!!! I read that and just spewed the beer in my mouth!!! |
|
I can't believe it!!!! Rock on!!!
It was one of those priceless moments when you read something and I just took a drink of beer and damn if I didn't spew it all over my floor!!!!
Whow!!! Maybe this will help to motive America!!!
Note, a lot of liberals like football as do a lot of independants and who gives a damn about the hard core right wingers, so this is good news.

Superlatives are inadequate to describe ALL of these ads. One of my favorites was *Desktop*.
I'm a bit too old to enjoy all of the heavy metal rock, rap, and hip-hop entertainment. However, most of the audience seemed to be enjoying it! Probably shouldn't admit it, but I never even heard of Moby or MCMC before last night!
It was a great evening, a pleasure being surrounded by like-minded people, and reassuring to know that we WILL regain our country through the efforts of MoveOn.org.

before and after the State of the Union address as well!
Stick it up Bush's ass.....
And why did they pick only one? Why are they not running three or four? They are not going all the way to Nov. with just one ad are they?

13. i liked the one about "what are we teaching our children?" |
|
best because it go so many different issues on the table
the winner ad only addresses the deficit
however, I think they all should run again and again

15. I think Child's Play was the weakest |
|
I think it was chosen because it would be the least offensive and most likely to actually get run. I don't know why they don't run the top 3 or 4.

16. That was also my opinion. It is much too subtle and not nearly hard |
|
hitting enough. Pulling punches and being afraid of offending just will not do the job. The repukes are master at the down and dirty and that ad, while well done, is too light.
