Ad showing kids laboring to pay off deficit wins MoveOn contest
By Beth Fouhy, Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO — Images of children toiling on a grocery line and in a tire factory coupled with a simple line of text — "Guess who's going to pay off President Bush's $1 trillion deficit?" — paid off for 38-year old Charlie Fisher of Denver, Colorado.

A young girl takes a dangerous job in Charlie Fisher's "Child's Pay" ad, which won MoveOn.org's contest. His ad, titled "Child's Pay," was chosen as the winner of the "Bush in 30 Seconds" television ad campaign sponsored by the online political organization MoveOn.com.

<snip>Fisher, a formerly "apolitical" Internet advertising executive who joined MoveOn after the disputed 2000 presidential election, said concern about the deficit prompted him to enter the contest. "I wanted to point out how the Republican administration are big spenders, and it's my children and your children who are going to be footing the bill," Fisher said.

Fisher's ad and some of the runners up will air nationally on CNN from Saturday through next week, when President Bush delivers his State of the Union address, Pariser said. <snip>

"Child's Pay" and the other ads can be seen online at http://www.bushin30seconds.org.

1. That ad was a great choice...

I liked others better, but I think that ad will resonate the most with the American populace.

2. That's a good point,
people will pay more attention to things affecting their pocketbook and financial future than almost anything else, regardless of how much better some of the other ads were.

7. I agree with you, the "regular" Americans will relate this to their own
families. They all need to know that it is our children and their children's children that will have to suffer under these terrible tax policies.

3. That Was My Personal Favorite
Although it was hard to just pick one - they were all just brilliant in my opinion.

5. Unfortunately the vast Right Wing no longer thinks deficits matter
"Reagan proved deficits don't matter." - Dick Cheney circa 2001

(Of course, they change their tune when a (D) is President)

6. I like the Teach your Children one better

Will they only be using this one? They should put ALL of them on the air at some point. They were all very good.

9. I like the one of the chimp dressed as Robin Hood......

robbing from the poor to give to the rich. Can you imagine if that aired in prime time and/or on the super bowl? Emergency rooms across the US would be flooded by rich, lard-assed, bush ass-kisser repugs suffering from apoplexy and strokes.

At least they wouldn't have to worry about how they'd pay for their medical care

8. I liked that one and the one where the guy says "In my country.."
and ends with "my county is the United States of America."

10. It's a great ad
People haven't really cared about the deficit, but this type of ad will open their eyes. It's really touching - I don't even have children and my eyes welled up when I first saw it.

11. I was watching the Moveon party last night
Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 11:40 AM by Champion_Jack
and since it was Realvideo, the feed was coming and going.
During one of the down times, I went to bushin30seconds.org and showed Mrs. Jack the entries. "Childs Pay" moved her to tears.
For what it's worth.
My 2 cents.

12. That was a good one
I still like "What are we teaching our children" better though -- it touched on multiple issues where * is screwing up, instead of just the deficit. But I still love this ad and can't wait for it to air!

13. anyone know how I can contact the creator of "Bring 'em On"?
It was pulled for possible copyright violations. If I remember the ad correctly, I think it might be possible to re-make it without the copyrighted material. I'd like to contact the creator to urge him to do so and offer any assistance I might be able to render.

And, of course, a kick for this thread!
