Poll: California blames DAVIS for Enron?
http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20030728/5358718s.htm

"Voters told pollsters that they signed recall petitions out of frustration with a dysfunctional government, along with feelings that Davis dithered while Enron and other companies manipulated the costly energy crisis."

How screwed up is the average Golden Stater anyhow? Could we take advantage of this by emphasizing the Bush/Cheney ties to Enron, and how it was BUSH who manipulated the California energy market?

1. Try reading the article again.
It says in there that we're not to passionate about the recall vote either.

2. Once again . . . it's a media problem.
The media hasn't made a strong enough connection between Bush and Enron. Every time I see something about Bush's contributions from Enron, they also show how much money Enron gave to democrats. We need to start campaign commercials showing how Bush was in bed with Enron.

4. yup, which candidate used Enron's jet to campaign?
that would be Georgie boy who flew around in Kenny boy's company plane.

Sure, Enron gave a pittance to the Dems - haven't people heard of "hedging your bets"?

Do people really believe George and Ken weren't tight pals, confidants? Who got to have a voice in choosing the energy commissioner (Ken Lay)? Who got to be invited to Dick's private energy meetings (Ken Lay)? The ties could go on and on.

6. Davis' commercial: "In Feb. 2001, Cheney met with Ken Lay...
... and devised a criminal scheme to gorge California electrical consumers..."it worked and now the Cheney-Lay Republicans want to steal your state government..."

The only way the repubs can challange the veracity of the ad is for Cheney to release the records of his energy taskforce meetings.

And he won't allow that to happen, because, well...that would show that "...In Feb 2001, Cheney met with Ken Lay and devised a criminal scheme...

7. Great!
I really think this recall thing is going to bite republicans in the ass. It gives Davis the stage to show how the Bush Administration, and not his administration, has fucked over California. Bush won't win that state in 2004, regardless of how the recall turns out (I think it will fail though).

9. typical Repug scapegoating...
Davis is responsible for Enron.
Osama, no Saddam, no Clinton's penis is responsible for 9/11.
And homosexuality is responsible for everything else.

10. that's right
davis is partially to blame. lots of "us" were screaming about the market manipulation right from the start. davis didn't catch on for months. and then he cost us billions of $$ with the long-term energy contracts.

that said, he still won the election, and i will vote against the recall.

just don't try to make out like davis is a hero, or an innocent victim. he's a self-serving egomaniac, and his strategy of keeping other dems off the ballot is extremely risky.
