That is my understanding also.
This is why I'm torn about Graham leaving the Senate for either the presidency or some cabinet level position. It's really, really good to have a crafty old fox in the henhouse!

5. If those four want it declassified... |
|
...it can only mean there's nothing harmful to the administration in there.

...but you can bet that if there was anything potentially damaging to the administration in the report, all the Repukes would be circling their wagons to protect Bush*.

9. For the rest of his term.. |

...and then possibly for a second depending on whether we can beat him in 04'.
"So, when it's declassified, how many days can Bush survive after that?"
Is this another, "this is gonna bring Bush down" fantasy?
People are getting their expectations up way to high over this...again. If the classified material would really damage Bush's presidency no Republican senators would be for releasing it. Further, if the still classified part of the report would actually end Bush's presidency there would simply be no possible way to keep it secret. Too many Democrats know what's in it, if it were something that would "bring Bush down" the information would have been leaked by some staffer somewhere.
The material is very likely just very embarrassing for the Saudi's and raises questions about why the US government continues to support them knowing full well that the Saudi Kingdom spreads and indirectly supports radical muslim terrorists. I am quite sure the Saudi's probably didn't really want it released but made a big show of acting like they did. They quickly "understood" when Bush said no to releasing the information. Bush is trying to protect Saudi Arabia in the exact same way all US Administrations have been protecting them for years - and it is all about the fear of what might replace the current monarchy. The report is not going to contain Bush-Saudi connections, nor is going to show evidence of LIHOP or MIHOP.
Don't get your hopes up too high as you likely to be sorely dissappointed if the material is actually ever released.

Candy"s show, they had the letter from him and showed just part of it. Said it hadn't been released yet. It was going to all the Senators.

in another thread there was a story saying that Feinstein (D-CA) and Rockefeller (D-WV) said that full release would harm national security.

13. count those two out and we still have the majority to declassify it |
|
we could probably bring more Republicans over, Chafee of course and maybe McCain, I can't think of too many other Dems who'd be against it except Zell, actually it'd be interesting to see with Ben Nelson with the Republican senator from his state for it.

15. The full report will come out eventually |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 09:02 PM by BeFree
Whether the Senate demands it or not this time around, one day the full report will come out.
And when it does folks are gonna say "why was this such a big deal, keeping it a secret?" Then they're gonna say "how many other secrets are being kept from us, and who's doing the keeping? " No one wants to be caught in this. If the WH and the pukes continue trying to keep it a secret there gonna get slimed.
I hope all the Dems quickly get behind Senator Graham. But I ain't holding my breath.
