How was the Democratic response?
I went for a walk after Bush's Drivel of the Union. I felt the need to get some fresh air after all of that.

Thanks in advance.

1. the words were good
the delivery by pelosi (looks like she just had botox done, I don't think her face moved at all) and Daschle (looking like a used car salseman with speech problems) was atrocious

3. Daschle sometimes makes me sick.
He really should not try to be so conciliatory to the Republicans in my view. It also seems like everytime he speaks out against a Bush policy, he usually turns around and votes for it. Go figure!

5. Sounds like it wasn't different from last year's response.
When Washington State Governor Gary Locke went so lightly on Bush on homeland security, Iraq, and state issues like why the states are going broke.

Docile responses do not make an opposition party.

6. Depends on which Dem response you mean
Daschle and Pelosi acted like they were on thorazine.

Kerry was interviewed on ABC and said the President talked about a different country than the one a lot of people are living in today. Savings account for medical expenses/insurance? Most people can't afford to save any money. Homeland security? 2/3 of the fire houses in America are understaffed. Homeland security is not adequately funded. Make tax cuts for the wealthy permanent? Roll those cuts for the wealthy back and invest in education. Called Bush on gay bashing and trying to drive wedges between people. Talked about appointing Pickering on MLK Day. Said Bush is out of touch with the lives of real Americans.

Clark was on Nightline and was great. Said Iraq action was preventative war - a war we didn't have to fight. Said Bush came to office with preconceptions and were not attentive to the threat of terrorism and as a result they didn't do everything that could have and should have been done to protect the US from the 9/11 attacks. That Iraq was a war built on hypothasis. That this administration has followed a doctrine foreign policy instead of dealing pragmatically with the problems to make America safer.

Those were the only two candidates I saw. Neither one is my favorite, but they both blew the Stepford Dems out of the water.

10. "How was the Democratic response?"
Absolutely pathetic!!! If Nancy Pelosi and Tom Daschle are all the Democrats have to make such a milquetoast response to the outright lies that spewed from Dumbya's mouth tonight, God help the Democratic Party...

12. I used to have respect for Pelosi.
I do not know what on Earth happened to her. Stepford politicans I suppose. They get "neutralized" once they get to the Capitol? No. That can't be. How would you explain Ted Kennedy, Jim McDemott, Dennis Kucinich, Robert Byrd, and any other hardline Democrats I may have forgotten?

I do not know why Pelosi has become so sheepish!

13. Pelosi went south
I dont know what planet she resides on, but her response was weak. She almost came across as saying that things aren't so bad under Bush and we can all have a better day tomorrow. There was no fire under her.I mean there is so much ammunition to use against this President and there was an abundance of it tonight that could have been used, and she didn't take the opportunity---I don't know why the democrats couldn't have picked a force-full speaker instead of these two. What are they afraid of, (pissing off the American people). We, as democrats have nothing to loose as of now.

14. And this woman was considered a liberal firebrand.
I am just mystified why she has been numbed. She better start getting that old fire back otherwise somebody else will take her place one of these days.

16. they have a pile of live ammunition but they insist on firing blanks
EMC said: "mean there is so much ammunition to use against this President and there was an abundance of it tonight that could have been used"

There are so many legitimate attacks that could be made on this "president", but the Dem leadership keeps throwing softballs. Are Daschle and Pelosi that scared of anthrax attacks, or do they WANT Republicans to keep winning? I can't think of any other explanation.

Imagine if Ted Kennedy and Henry Waxman had given the response.

15. Pathetic
Plastic politicians with shaky voices and stilted smiles.

WTF? Daschle's speech was a bit better than Pelosi's but GAWD the delivery was just plain awful.

17. I liked the reaction INSIDE the Chamber...
Wow, I nearly fell out of my chair when * said the Patriot Act was going to expire and the Democrats (and maby some Pukes) applauded! Did that EVER toss * off balance!!! Then they did the same thing with the tax cuts. I even heard booing! Way to go!

18. I thought they did what they had to do.
They made a lot of good points. They delivered them very calmly. If they had done anything else, all anybody would have reported was that they were angry, Bush-hating Dems. At least this way, there was a chance that somebody might actually talk about the substance of what they had to say.

19. ditto--Well delivered and intended
I was moving back and forth from CNN TV to NPRs' radio coverage. Was most impressed with the fact that Bill Richardson, Gov. New Mexico, delivered the Dem response in Spanish. His appearence thereafter on CNN was refreshing. I think he is a possible VP candidate.
Both Pelosi and Daschle talked directly to the camera unlike B*s' distracting mannerisms of looking for people he recognizes and smirking.
