Superbowl Quarterback Tom Brady at SOTU last night
Described by the Bush team as

"A touchdown from the Kerry 40 yard line"

(For the football illiterate, Tom Brady is the uber-handsome QB of the New England (Boston, John Kerry, etc) Patriots

Just a quick point I found amusing from last night's broadcast.

11. Go Carolina -- and don't stop 'til you get past the Outer Banks!
(glug glug glug) Cripes, you already stole a hockey team from New England! Enough, already!

Having researched this Brady thing on a slow afternoon yesterday, I can report that Tom is trying to remain studiously apolitical, or at least nonpartisan. He was, in fact, going to have a fundraiser for Kerry -- but just then, the Pats' obligatory White House visit intervened, and -- surprise! -- there went the Kerry fundraiser. (Will teams start throwing their title games just to avoid meeting Bush*?)

http://www.absolutebrady.com/Archive/April2002.html

The Boston Herald reports Tuesday that Senator John Kerry (D-MA) tried unsuccessfully to schedule a June fundraising event featuring Super Bowl quarterback Tom Brady. According to the report, the Herald had reported March 31 that Brady was planning to host the June 21 fundraiser -- But two days later, Brady and the rest of Patriots would go to meet President Bush at the White House -- and two days after that, he withdrew from the fundraiser. The Herald piece speculates that Brady may have been unaware that Kerry is a likely '04 challenger against President Bush. The piece also cites an earlier U.S. News and World Report article about how both parties have been courting Brady, and how he wants "all the politicians to shut up and stop making it sound as if he likes any of them."

Hmmm... "shut up"... could a guest shot on O'Really be next?

Then again, Delhomme could have a kickin' fundraiser at his restaurant in the French Quarter... wait a minute... that's Prudhomme... who the hell is this Delhomme, anyway?

12. Go Carolina
Supporting bush is no accident... fuck Brady... he had a free choice not to be there, and he should have used it.

As it now stands, the superbowl is now symbolic between the Bush annointed team and the people's team... panthers.

New England's coach must be livid that he's going to lose because of stupid politics... oops... but when you play hardball, don't expect not to get hit.

2. Just goes to show how out of touch Shrub is...
From what they say on CNNSI most people want Carolina to win. Maybe Kerry should get Jake Delhomme. :D

7. Im sure
You could find several Panthers who support the Republicans and Bush as well...

Point being that you just are never going to a whole team full of Democrats or Republicans. What's the point in basing who you root for on one player's political stance?

Although I admit that I do find it discouraging when I find out that an athlete I admire supports Gov. Bush.

4. Most pro atheles are republicans...they are rich, they have no time to
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 05:36 PM by BackDoorMan
deeply study the issues only playbooks and then they just want to have fun after that...they sure as fuck aren't studying the real issues they are too far removed as "STARS" everything is given to them on a silver platter, they watch hours of the right-wing owned corporate media on the road in their hotel rooms before and after going to a movie, bar and a meal....

and as we know ALL pro athletes are greedy and worried about taxes and without studying how the poor or middle class is affected (they have no time or do they care about common folk)just what their accountant tells them and so they become these silly gung ho Americans, kill everybody and everything non American...(certainly they know they or their children won't have to serve.) It's rare to find a rich athlete who is a liberal democrat.

5. Not so sure what side he is on
I am a big Patriots fan, and if I had any advice to Tom Brady, it would be "Stay out of politics". Why suddenly have half the people disliking you? Other reports had Brady originally scheduled to host a fundraiser for Kerry this summer but he had to back out due to "scheculing conflicts". I don't think this necessarily means he is endoring Bush, maybe he was invited and took up the offer. Either way though Tom should stay away from endorsing anyone. He's at the top of the world practically. I would be very frustrated if I had to listen to him tell me what a great job Dubya is doing.

8. Geesh
Give poor Tom a break, I say. He was prolly invited to be a professional face (and a "Patriot") for Bush's almost surreal plea to owners and coaches to stop steroids. People (like Tom Brady) ought to think more about the importance of symbolic gestures like that, but he was prolly genuinely honored to be asked to attend such an event. He's just a young guy. And he's a pretty awesome quarterback.

PS. I doubt, speaking of which, that Ty Law or Kobe Bryant are republicans.

9. Regardless of his politics
I hope Bobby Brady gets his ass kicked in the Stupor Bowl.

Rumor has it that Bush's only contribution to the SOTU address was the bit about professional athletes abusing steroids.

Why was that message in the SOTU address? Because Bush is a retard.

"tonight I call on team owners, union representatives, coaches, and players to take the lead, to send the right signal, to get tough, and to get rid of steroids now."

Bush and his speechwriters going over the SOTU speech:

Writer #1: So, what do you think of the speech, Mr. President?

Bush: Kinda boring. Can we add something about sports?

Writer #2: Sports??

Writer #1 and Writer #2 exchange a "what kind of idiot is this guy" look.

Writer #1: Mr. President, would you like a pudding cup?

Bush: Hey! Don't try to change the - wait, did you say pudding?

Remember how Brady and the Pats cheated the true champion Raiders out of the AFC title game.

Tuck Bush, Brady, and the Pats!
