Austin, TX DU'ers, I have a question about your former Govs morality.... |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 10:27 PM by Cannikin
Several years back, I was traveling through Austin and I was overwhelmed by the number of adult businesses located along side the freeway. It seems like every mile or so, I was seeing a large red neon 'XXX' or something similar. Was this something Bush opposed?

thatz a local zoning thing... The distance restrictions between certain sinful establishments and churches/schools pushes the supply to some strange places.

3. I guess why I'm asking... |

I'm just looking for obvious signs he's invoking religion and the bible now just to get votes and not because he has a history of it. He didnt make it a point to 'clean up' Austin and rid it of its sinful sex shops while he was in office.

He didn't push these issues during his governorship. He mainly tried to push the "no child left behind," which many teachers didn't like and the "boot camp" program for juvenile deliquents. Also, he wanted to push a law forbidding "frivilous" law suits. Other than that he wasn't seen much.
He was a lousey governor. He is now playing to the fundies only to get votes.

5. He only lived in Austin while he was Governor. |
|
It's not like this was his primary residence before that.
Austin's always been a fairly liberal place - most people adopt a live and let live attitude.

6. Austin is not like the rest of Texas |
|
It's the "liberal oasis of Texas", as we like to say. An island in a sea of conservatism.
