Peak Oil and a Fascinating Email I Received
I'm on a PR email list for people who try to pimp their clients onto the airwaves, that's how I got this. Some DUers might find it of interest:

An energy crisis is coming!

...but we can profit from it.

So say Steven and Donna Leeb, authors of the hot new book, THE OIL FACTOR: Protect Yourself-AND PROFIT-From the Coming Energy Crisis (Warner Business Books/February 12, 2004/Hardcover).

They'll tell listeners why:

* The global oil wars make defense stocks a premium buy

* We should avoid "the broad middle of stocks," such as those composing the extremely popular S&P 500 index

* Oil and natural gas stocks should be among core holdings in our portfolio

* The turn to a deflationary environment suggests selling energy holdings

* Defense industry investments will register "multiple wins"- including
higher returns thanks to rising profits

* We can profit from real estate without actually owning any

* We should shun the previously golden advice to "buy and hold" and instead
"switch between inflation plays and deflation hedges"

3. Well What's Fascinating About It
Is that this is someone in the business community - who actually might not be a crackpot - coming forward with acceptance of the notion that peak oil is on our doorstep.

6. Hmmmm. Good point.
Whatever the business community knows, you can bet they will hire legions of PR people to convince the Imperial Subjects of Amerika the exact opposite, then make a killing off the ignorance...

4. I read 5 years ago in Fortune magazine
an article about how the demand for oil is about to outstrip the supply, so a sure-fire stock bet was companies that built oil-rig equipment and the like. Because the price of oil would certainly be going up and while the oil companies would have to spend more and more to get less and less profit, the companies that supply them would be making out like crazy.
