Veterans Blast Jacko's Medals as "mockery"
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0122Jacko-Medals-ON.html

Associated Press
Jan. 22, 2004 08:29 AM

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Add a group of veterans to the list of people who are on Michael Jackson's case these days. Their beef - the medals that Jackson wore to accessorize his courtroom outfit this past Friday.

Jackson wore a Serbian medal of merit hanging from his collar and a patch with an insignia of the British Royal Army Service Corps.

2. Michel Jackson
It's amazing how people pile on Jackson, yet we rarely hear a thing about Phil Spector or Robert Blake who are accused of committing murder. In Blake's case, a little child was left without a mother. The frenzy over Jackson is sickening. He's only been accused yet for many people, he's guilty.

15. or R. Kelly, R & B singer, who has actually been filmed
Banging girls the age of the boys Michael is supposed to have touched.

The scandals surrounding R. Kelly have not touched his career or record sales at all.

Wonder why?

17. Because
unlike Kelly, Jackson is a super rich black man who is, in the opinion of some, quite odd. That combination does not sit well with many in this country. Jackson is not a murderer, yet he is being treated as if he is one.

Michael Jacson's fame far exceeds Spector's or Blakes combined.

21. Just because
someone is quite famous, does not mean he deserves to be treated more harshly than others. SPector may not be well known, but in this country, Robert Blake certainly is. They are accused of murder and I'll bet if acquitted, there will be no outcry. In this country, certain people are subjected to a different standard. Marv Albert bit a woman fifty times, dressed in women's underwear but was able to return to work with no outrage from anyone. Imagine if he had been an African American. He would be the object of ridicule forever. I'm happy that Marv is getting on with his life. However it would not have been so easy had he been black.

4. Sorry, but I can understand...
the anger when someone who has not EARNED their medals wears them.

Mr. Jackson's fantasy life is a rich one, one that doesn't understand what many men and women have gone through to get many of those medals.

It's a respect thing.

6. MJ wears an emblem or medal with damn near every outfit
he ever wears since the early 80s, but all of a sudden everyone has a comment to make. Like I said, it's just a bandwagon that everyone wants their foot on..

5. So, Pervo Jacko has made some new friends
I agree with the Veterans. Having many vets in my family, I can understand their outrage when some freak decides to use military decorations as fashion accessories. Maybe Jackson is just stupid, or maybe he's as out of his mind as he seems in interviews.

Almost as disgusting as having a draft dodger put on a flight suit and strut around on an aircraft carrier.

9. Jackson's a pervo?
It's really sad that someone would brand a person a pervo simply because he has been accused of a crime or acts rather bizzare. Are we now at the stage in our society that to be accused automatically means one is guilty? Trials are no longer necessary?

24. Sorry, but His Interview said it all
Call me Old-Fashioned, but any grown man who freely admits to sharing his bed with young children (irregardless of gender) is not a normal person. I stand by my assessment of Jacko.

25. I must stand my statements also.
It would seem that a person who had violated a child would not admit to sleeping with children on national television. I still believe in trial by jury with evidence presented. We have reached a sad state in this country when an accused is judged guilty before his case has even been tried. Maybe the next thing is a return to vigilantism?

who has Jackson killed? And I'm a veteran from the Korean conflict and it doesn't bother me a bit what he wears and what he doesn't.

10. Which "Medal of Merit"?
Was it the King's medal given to his household staff, or the Red Cross medal? Those are the only two Serbian Medals of Merit I've found. And they go back almost a hundred years.

Can't tell from the picture which one, but neither is a military medal.

Didn't bother to look up the patch, but it occured to me that some people should just shut up and think before they complain.

And keep up the MJ hysteria. We hear enough about him already.

16. Do you see a difference between the two?
One is supposed to be a commander-in-chief, the other is a nutty former pop star.

I say big deal to jackson, and yes I'd go nuts if Bush wore them. And rightfully so.

27. What about all the phoney medals General Augusto Pinochet wear?
That should be more upsetting to a Chilean than what Jackson wears, 'eh?

Or did Pinochet earn all his medals?

13. Sheesh. All this fuss for wearing old foreign medals?
Madonna could masturbate with a crucifix on MTV and that would be ok but let Michael Jackson wear old foreign medals and it's an effing scandal.

Sheesh.
