Randi Rhodes for Congress...should she do it?
Randi has said on her show that she's considering running for the seat currently held by Mark Foley (R-Florida). She hasn't given a time frame on when she will make a decision. I have mixed emotions about it. Not that she won't win; she'll blast Foley or whomever she's running against. I love listening to her show and can't imagine her not being on the air. But at the same time, she can do a much greater good by being on the Hill than sitting in a Clear Channel studio for four hours a day. Came somebody say Speaker Rhodes?

1. I'd vote for her
in Palm Beach County, it would be an honor. Yes, we would miss her program enormously.

2. Randi would indeed do far more good on the air
than in political office. Rush Limbaugh has said the exact same thing about himself. Of course in Fat Ass's case it's laughable, but the point is the same.

8. I agree
There's a certain kind of person who's best served OUTSIDE of Washington and Randi is one of them....I used to listen to her show when she was working on 610 WIOD. I can't pick up her show in Palm Beach from where I live.

Randi speaks from the heart and she's a real credit to party, but I believe that in a campaign, your own radio show can be used against you by a rival to distort and take out of context any number of issues....You can be sure the public would scrutinize her more than the typical candidate....She'd spend more than half her time campaigning in defending her statements on the radio than pushing her agenda....There's also a "past life" issue concerning her that would be brought up.....Politics is a business where the term "çut-throat" was BORN.

I also think Limbaugh took this scenario into consideration...You just know that he'd be a winger's wet dream candidate in any office he'd persue....When talking is your profession, it should make you think twice before diving in.

9. I've also heard her mention this on her show.
I've been happy that she has been more active lately and really getting her name out there.

Right after 9/11, I was afraid that she would lose her show because everyone seemed so patriotic, connect and warm & fuzzy. (lol) It didn't seem like anyone wanted to hear anything negative about *.

3. Yes, she should and so should a few people here on DU !
File their affidavit with their secretary of state, get themselves a Treasurer, file the appropriate paperwork and go for it. It's not complicated. If I lived somewhere besides this part of Colorado, I would do it.

4. Maybe,
As long as she doesn't use that song she played today in her campaign. Oh, and she shouldn't sing either. :)

Actually, she shouldn't run if her show gets picked up nationally.

Randi rocks...it would be so cool if she was picked up nationally. She would kick ass as a Rep too.

10. I dunno
District 16 is primarily rural, it isn't the South Florida of retiree communities and golf carts you might think. I live in southern Palm Beach County, Delray Beach to be precise. Randi could win here. But even though Foley's district is right next to ours it's a different world altogether. Check out the map.

http://election.dos.state.fl.us/maps/Congress/2002/map.asp?map=16

Fully 80% of that area is agricultural and pretty Conservative (CLC'ers). In fact in 2002 the Dems didn't even oppose him, his only opponent was from the Constitutional Party (think pissed off Libertarians) and garnered 21% of the vote to Foley's 79%.
