Dean on Hardball mentioned cooked NIE...
National Intelligence Estimate - CIA document used as justification that Saddam Hussein was a threat needing immediate action.

He hinted that he received information from an un-named retired CIA officer (my guess is Ray McGovern?)that Cheney pressured mid-level analysts to inflate the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, in effect, giving the administration "cover" or plausible deniability in launching an unjust invasion.

Didn't all the papers have that Chaney made a lot of trips to the CIA a while back?

2. I think that won't work
because we have intelligence from other countries saying same thing. Dean is making himself look too "conspiratorial"

18. Sy Hersch wrote about it at length, as I recall
And others as well.

This is safe enough IMO that shortly John Kerry will be mentioning it too, just as soon as he finds out for sure that Dean doesn't get shot down about it.

5. There was massive resistance in UK intelligence community regarding Iraq
Remember the "sexing-up" incident?

Interesting how quickly "other countries" come around and see things "our way" when it comes to huge oil investment profits.

8. Other countries had similar intelligence
and people will realize Cheney didn't go to all those other countries intelligence agencies. It just won't work and might turn people off. Conspiracies don't go over well with the average person. I'm just thinking of your average joe schmo out there that won't buy it. Dean is making it look like he picks up on every conspiracy thrown out there. Not good

12. The Office of Special Plans is not a conspiracy
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 09:46 PM by jpak
it's a fact.

Cheney's many unprecedented trips to the CIA to supervise the development of intelligence on I-raqi WMD is not a conspiracy.

It's a fact.

I'm an "average schmo" and I don't buy ChimpCo's lies and I am am quite turned off by his war and its consequences.

That's a fact.

Record turnouts for Democratic caucuses and primaries indicate that the average schmo is pissed off at Bush - not the Democrats.

Fact.

20. I hate to tell ya this Ellie
but a lot of other countries did not in fact believe what the White House put out as truth. A great many tried to warn the US in fact, and I'd like to think they were at least a little surprised to find that the Bush people didn't want to hear it.

I'm a big fan of the truth, and Dean is telling it in this case. It's about time more people did, don't ya think?

6. no longer matters no one but Dean would
push this issue because all of the rest of the field are complicate in the crime. They may have destroyed my candidate but they also just lost a life long Democrat. I didn't leave the party it has abandoned me and the American people.

9. Wake-up. The only REAL Democrats are Kucinich and Sharpton...
and they aren't going to win either but they CAN push the agenda of the other "electable" candidates. Bush has to go.

15. Agreed.
These two are inspiring!

I think Dean and Clark are also both good men, but not socially progressive democrats like Kucinich and Sharpton.

Kerry even less so.

In my view the real Dem candidates are Dean, Kucinich and Sharpton.

14. Dean is very aware of appearances by now
When he was saying this it appeared to me he holding information back. Another words he was not saying all he wanted to.

If Kerry is elected President there will be no investigation of the Mr. Bush Jr. Administration. It will be business as usual.

If Dean is elected President there will be some heads rolling. Both Democrats and Republicans.
