one of the dumbest things I've read on Free Republic
I've seen this happen many times. some Freeper says he won't vote for Bush, due to his spending, amnesty, ect. ect. Then some other Freeper says "think of the troops overseas, risking their lives for your freedom (i'm interested in how they are defending my freedom). Don't you owe it to them to give them a respectable commander-in-chief?"

yeah, why not ask the troops yourself dumbass and see if they want to keep this clown who cuts their pay and benefits while continuing to increase their tours of duty. These idiots defy all logic.

1. "The man who raped you, isn't he a good lover?"
that's what it sounds like to me.

2. Yes, we do owe it to the troops
That should be our campaign slogan.

Think of the troops overseas, risking their lives for your freedom. Don't you owe it to them to give them a respectable commander-in-chief? Vote Clark/Dean/Edwards/Kerry/Kucinich/Lieberman in 2004.

3. They have no sense of irony
"The troops are fighting for our freedom, so we owe it to them to never question our leaders."

4. you have no idea
They don't understand irony, and they don't get satire.

The other day Limbaugh reffered to Clark as "General Jack D Ripper". Apparently Rush has seen Dr. Strangelove, but it went completely over his head.

They also don't understand what Orwell meant in 1984 or in Animal Farm.

Part of the reason they don't appreciate or understand satire is that a satarist usually pretends to agree with them. They are just happy to see that and they use it to jusitfy and support their case. They don't realize that the satarist is making fun of them.

5. No Ironic Sense . . . By George, You've Got It
The political ironies pile up, and Pubbies never see them . . . You've explained it! They have no ironic sense!

Thus they ignore:
* Ronald Reagan ran up the biggest deficit in history, up to that time.

* Weasel Bush has run up the second -- in half the time!

* They've pilloried a true American hero, their own John McCain.

* Weasel Bush, unlike his father, couldn't make a buck when he had it handed to him on a silver platter (by Poppy's old cronies), and deserted his uniform and oath in time of war -- but says the Dem's can't manage the economy, and the Dems are all traitors.

Unbelievable. War is Peace. Hate is Love. Black is White. You'll learn to love Big Brother.

The Epoch of Illusion has reached its apogee, friends.

6. Don't forget my favorite right wing irony
They say they love the American Dream. They admire someone who works hard and pulls himself up from the depths to accomplish great things.

Bill Clinton was born poor in Arkansas, and didn't exactly have a great childhood. He overcame that, and through merit and hard work became President of the United States.

Yet they hate him.

Bush came from everything, has accomplished nothing, and they applaud him.

7. Plus Billy Gates
They glorify Bill Gates as an "up by his bootstraps" entrepreneur.

Of course, anyone who has been around the PC biz for years knows that Billy Gates' mom was on the board of directors of . . . IBM Corporation! (when they picked the operating system Billy had BOUGHT, not written, to put on the original IBM PC.)

Kurt Vonnegut: "So it goes."

8. I have standard answers for all of the RW idiocy...
When it comes to the military: "Did you serve"? If the answer is "no", I ask if I can drive them to the recruiter of their choice, if they are within age limits. What better way to support our troops and our freedoms, than to put on a uniform. I ALWAYS get a dumb stare.

When it comes to supporting terrorism: "Did you buy gas this week"?
Seems like buying gas supports terrorism a lot more than some guy smoking a joint.

They support the "Patriot Act", so do I, I call it the Bill or Rights.
You know, those ten little amendments that make us what we are, and scare the crap out of Ashcroft and bush.

The WTC bombing, those guys were caught back in '93 by police work and luck. Those on 9-11 were never exposed, because of poor intelligence and an incoming administration that didn't want to have anything to do with Clinton.

There is not one GI in Iraq or Afghanistan that is defending my freedom here. In fact, they are not defending freedom for Iraqi's or Afghan's.

Freepers want everyone else to pick up the tab for their excesses; they have a hard time living up to being American citizens.

there is no chapter on logic in the RW handbook. Actually there is, but each page only reads "This Page Left Intentionally Blank."
