3. I think it's great that these books are doing well... |
|
But am I the only one that finds it weird that all of these silly political books (like Coulter's "Treason" or Franken's "Lying Liars") are at the top of the best seller list? Is that really the best our culture has to offer these days? These books can be fun for partisans, but they're not serious books that people are going to be reading fifty years from now.

4. I'm trying to understand here...what's wrong with Lying Liars? |
|
How do you even compare the two, when Coulter's "footnotes" aren't even verifiable when she says she bringing up facts, and Franken has everything he says lined up in copious amounts of foot and endnotes?
Are you trying to squelch Franken's efforts to expose the lies told by people like Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, etc?

But it's not a serious book. Franken is a comedian. Same with Michael Moore and the others (on both sides). I just think that it's weird that these silly books are best-sellers.

5. Compared to other Non-Fiction, like Good Biographies |
|
or history, or Science, you're right. But, I guess it is another sign of just how much half of us hate and fear the other half......
I blame Cable News, John McLaughlin and of course, Rush.

7. Could you name a book that fits your criteria, please? |
|
I don't have a clue what you mean, or what your criticism is (or means).
So how about an example (or several) of a recent "serious book" which will be read 50 years from now.

9. Pulitzer Prize-winning biographies (e.g. Truman) |

Good science books (anything by Sagan or Hawking) etc. Those are books that will last. The current best-sellers -- which all seem to have ridiculous titles like: "Lying Liars" or "Treason" or "Bias" or "Who's Looking Out for You?" -- are simplistic and will be forgotten in five years.
