Ann Richard's worst mistake? |
|
Tonight on American Justice 8pm and 12pm on A and E is the case of James Henry Reyos which is summarized below. He is free now but is looking for a pardon from Rick Perry. You can find a form to contact him at www.governor.tx.us/contact This innocent man deserves to be known as innocent and a murderer needs caught.
Shamed into Confession In penal law, confessing guilt to a police officer is prime facial evidence of culpability. Case in point is James Harry Reyos, who freely confessed to police that he had killed a Catholic priest in cold blood in 1982, during a homosexual tryst in a West Texas motel, a confession he later tried to retract.
Every other piece of testimony controverted his guilt. Reyos had an airtight alibi: He was 200 miles away when the priest was bludgeoned to death. Reyos could prove his alibi: time-stamped receipts, a speeding ticket and even an eyewitness. But Father Patrick Ryan, a 49-year-old native of Ireland, was a much beloved priest, and Reyos’ allegations that the father had repeatedly solicited young men for sex shocked and offended the jurors. Defense attorneys argued that Reyos confessed out of an overwhelming sense of 'catholic' guilt over his homosexual relationship with the Father. But the jury didn’t buy it, and Reyos was sentenced to 38 years in prison. Today, he still maintains his innocence. Revisit this compelling case and judge for yourself. TV PG

5. Ann Richards' biggest mistake |

was systematically pissing off everyone that supported her 4 years prior to the point we really didn't give a shit if she won or not.
Her jerk son-in-law didn't help her cause either.

6. Her sitting back and taking it when Shrub attacked her alcoholism... |
|
...didn't help her cause either. She should have fought back, instead she let Shrub and Rove attack her and make her look weak.

I know that Democrat Jim Mattox accused her of being a cocaine addict, but do not recall Bush bringing up anything like this.

8. Her RR Commissioner didn't help either. |

Some one should have vetted the woman's credentials before letting her ride in on Ann's coattails. Turns out she had lied about her degree and honors status. Huge embarrassment, right before the election that put Dumbya in office.

Nora Linares was State Lottery Commissioner, for all the difference it makes. Ann Richard's biggest mistake in 1994 was that she wasn't a Republican and a Bush was running against her; also she said she would veto a concealed gun carry law if she was re-elected. W, of course, vowed to sign it and he did. Karl Rove's strategy was to accuse her of personally attacking the Boy Wonder even when she asked legitimate questions about his lack of experience in government. Then, as now, it was the old "How dare you pick on me, you mean old thing"? ploy and the Texas media stressed how LIKABLE W was. She would have lost her first race for Governor if her opponents- both Dem and Repub-weren't such stupid assholes. As you can see, I'm a big Ann Fan-she's the best.

11. No, It was RR Commissioner Lena Guerrero. |
|
I believe she was from the Valley. I don't remember anything about the Lottery Commissioner.
My point was that it was bad news at the worst time, and caused a "piling on" effect agaisnt Richards.
Sorry I didn't make myself more clear at the time. ;)

Not running for President!
Seriously, her worst mistake would be, in my opinion, lobbying for tobacco companies after she left politics.
I love Ann Richards and would support her in any endeavor just to thank her for the unforgettable "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth!"
