She contributed big to Dems. Just asking.

1. Heard rumors that's why...

3. Not so much that she's a Dem
but because she's the woman people love to hate. They prosecute her for petty crap and everybody can get out their two minutes of hate while all of the people behind Enron. WorldCom, et al, walk free.

It's just a bonus that she supports Dems.

4. She allegedly profited $38,000.00. Ken lay stole billions and is...
free and golfing with Poppy.
Yes I would say that this politically motivated.

9. But Kenny-boy loaned an Enron jet to Dumbya for his 2000 campaign
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 09:26 PM by Bozita
I'd love to see photos of Dumbya with the Enron logo in the background on the plane's tail.

5. it's also because she demonstrates colossal nerve
That was pretty cool when she raised $80 million to buy her company out. Martha knows how to play in the big time, where women aren't supposed to be kicking ass.

6. Read this NY Times Piece
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/04/opinion/04MCLE.html

The above article is entitled Unequal Justice.

Seems to me they're going after her because she's known to contribute to the Democratic party, and because she's a successful, wealthy woman. (Trying to remind her of "her place"?)

14. Yes, that's what her people are saying
as well. Someone here at DU was talking to one of them, and they said the entire fiasco was politically motivated. Not surprising since she strongly supported Gore on Letterman, and speaks about energy conservation and organic farming on her program.

The other reason? Distraction. As long as our attentions are on Ms. Stewarts troubles, we may forget the real criminals in Washington.

8. The witness today got her for insider trading.
Trouble is, she is NOT charged with insider trading.

And, just for the record, if a broker told me that a CEO was dumping his stock, I'd sell mine too. A perfectly rational reaction.

19. sorry Martha couldn't be warm and cuddly for you
But she most likely doesn't give a damn whether you think she's an Ice Princess or not. And that, quite frankly, is one reason I like her so much.

12. Its because she is famous.
This is more important as a celebrity trial than a corporate trial. This is just another news item to keep actual issues on the backburner.

and she's a strong woman.

Puny little Repukes with their tiny little 'manhood' just can't stand a woman having money and power.

Obstruction of justice? Could not get her for insider trading.
Sure, my first thought was she was a big Dem fundraiser.

17. I think it's because she's a woman entrepreneur.
I'm not saying that Martha isn't a tad guilty, but I think compared to Ken Lay's crimes this is an over the top witch hunt. Also, as a Democrat and non-donor to the cabal's campaign funds, she doesn't have the protection of the crooks in high places.

18. They are going after her for two reasons
Reason 1: She broke the law and they have proof.
Its not a bad reason.

But, more importantly,

Reason 2: She is not Ken Lay.

20. Well...
Has Ken Lay spent one day in court? How about Neil Bush -- one day in jail? Or how 'bout our bud Sick Cheney and his treasonous, corrupt and immoral pals at Halliburton?

Martha is a high-profile, major contributor to the Dem party and a woman to boot. If it's one thing Rethugs hate it's a powerful woman... just ask Hillary Clinton.

21. They want to make an example out of Martha
that women should know their place and not overstep it, especially by being rich and powerful and Democratic. :argh: Perhaps Martha made a mistake, but it's not like she killed anyone like that repuke in South Dakota (all of sudden his name escapes me :eyes: ).
