1. I don't trust the Post for it's conservative slant but...
some interesting figures here.

* In a less widely watched section of its report, the government is reporting that the unemployment rate in June was 10.6 percent, when you include people who are too discouraged to look for jobs and/or not fully employed.

5. And what about the indeterminate number
who have been "booted off" the discouraged worker list? How many of them are there? What is the criterion?

And whenever unemployment is this high, there are a lot of underemployed people as well.
