My idea for DUBYA'S B-DAY GIFT in July - Mass mailings of 1984 to WH!!!
I had an idea some time ago. I shopped it around to some dem/progressive web sites a couple of months ago but got no takers.
I thought it would be a great idea if there were some mass, organized effort by hundreds of thousands of Americans, and even people from other countries, to mail a copy of 1984 to the White House for Bush's b-day in July. If something like this got organized it would create a massive news story. It would be during the slow, dog days of summer, when news programs are itching for ANYTHING to cover. It would also be right in the middle of the campaign.
And you know people in Europe and the rest of the world are itching for a way they can show their disgust with Bush.

A mass mailing of anything, during a designated time period, to the White House would in itself draw attention. This is a creative, thoughtful way to let Americans in the dark know what is going on with this country.
How about it...any thoughts?

1. The trouble is
They've all already read it. Unfortunately they thought it was an instruction manual.

2. He probably will be at the "ranch" but how about this I think it
would get more press and have more impact. Get one person each to represent the KIAs in Iraq and have them hold a picture over their face of each one. You can get them from the Washington post faces of the fallen. I would also like to make it a tribute to the fallen and request permission of the families if they can be contacted. For America to see the number and the faces of their lost children might just wake some people up. Run with it I think it would have a powerful impact.

3. 1984
Good idea.
Let's kick the book idea around though. I need to get it out of my system. I really think it would be a clever yettasteful way to show up these clowns and get press coverage to boot.

9. Connections, anyone?
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 02:05 AM by digno dave
I think we need to find a web-site/blogger or 10 that is well-received and has a nice sized audience to promote the idea. Surely there are people on this web site that have some connections that fit this description.

18. Yeah, but Dubya doesn't know it.
That's a picture of your president breaking the law. He is defacing an American flag.

6. the problem is
Bush can't read.

When he gives speeches on TV, there's no teleprompter, there's an earpiece in his ear (obviously) with someone on the other end reading what he has to say to him. Bush's mind is so slow, he often has to be re-read what he's supposed to say, and therefore looks like he's nervous when he speaks, instead of simply braindead :)

Send him the movie version.

14. I like it, and 1984 is readily available in used bookstores
so the cost is low for those of us on tight budgets. In fact, for some reason I have two copies. Georgie can have my extra. Condi can read it to him for a bedtime story.
