I had a conversation with a hard core Republican tonight |
|
She expressed alot of disappoinment in Bush and his policy on economics and jobs. I live in a blue state that has been hit very hard with manufacturing jobs leaving. She said that she's been an active Republican all her life and she's never seen anything this bad. She's having a hard time supporting him. Gee, what are other Repubs thinking? I would guess the same. We found some common ground here: we care about the people in our region and their ability to make a living wage. I think there are conversations like this going on all over the country.

I generally read about a dozen different US newspapers a week (as you can tell, I have a desk job) and I have seen more and more letters in the past year written by real Republicans who are angry over what the current officeholder and his court, er, administration, are doing. Unfortunately, too many of them go on to say that they'll abstain from voting rather than vote for a Dem...

7. An abstention is like half a Dem vote |

Winning elections is about getting your own base out in numbers without alienating the middle. Any republican who abstains means that one less Democratic vote has been canceled. Sure, I hope a lot of republicans cross over in November but if they choose to stay at home then I will be glad to thank them for their principled non-vote.
