I believe that poll are closing right now in the special election so results should be coming in soon. This is a great oppurtunity to pick up a seat in the House.

1. Wow! 4 threads for the price of one!

How is the Dem's (Chandler's) chances?

2. Yeah, my computer started to freeze up
And, it resulted in 4 threads. But, now I can't edit the others to say that I want them deleted. I guess they will figure it out soon enough.

I think we can win this one. Chandler is leading in the polls and the district was represented by a democrat before 1998. However, in a low tunout election like this I don't know what will happen.

No results yet. This could be one important step towards taking back the House. We should pick up South Dakota's seat in June as well so we should need only 11 more seats in order to control the House.

The other site isn't updating but this one is. Looks good so far. I think this is only for Fayette county though but it is a fairly large county in the district.

Saying this race is not a referendum on Bush. Kerr refused any help from Bush and Cheney. Watch them spin.

16. Looking very good for Chandler
13 percentage point lead with only 40% of the votes not counted.

I'd guess that's a pretty insurmountable lead.

Looks as if Hastert's bribe attempt in offering to push a proposed federal tobacco buyout did not work.

Democrat Ben Chandler wins special election

By CHARLES WOLFE
Associated Press Writer

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Democrat Ben Chandler won a special election Tuesday for a vacant U.S. House seat formerly held by Gov. Ernie Fletcher, a Republican. Chandler's victory ended a losing streak for the Democratic Party.

Chandler, who had great name recognition after two terms as attorney general, but had lost decisively to Fletcher in the gubernatorial election in November, defeated Republican state Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr of Lexington. A Libertarian candidate, Mark Gailey of Berea, also was on the ballot.

With 88 percent of precincts reporting, Chandler had 74,935 votes, or 56 percent. Kerr had 57,071 or 42 percent. Gailey had 2,620 votes or 2 percent.
