What concerns Americans more - the Economy or Gay marriages? |
|
Am I the only one who thinks that, regardless of what the polls say on gay marriage, Bush has stepped in a pile of crap with this issue?
I mean the country is literally falling apart around us and the conservatives think that a few gay marriages have some relevant tangible impact on anything? How out of touch...
What is the mainstream opinion? Even if one opposed the idea of gay marriage that doesn't automatically mean that one thinks that we should put invest effort and attention into restricting it.

1. The Economy is much more important |

Gays marrying doesn't directly affect me but the economy surely does. Yeah I know, it's selfish.

...are telling their terrified flocks of pigeons that the economy is falling apart because of things like abortion and gay marriage, and their terrified little pigeons eat it right up. That is what we are up against, a silly mindset that blames everything on the wrath of god and absolves billionaires of all wrongdoing.
It's an uphill fight. Bush knows the pigeons will vote GOP to bust up all those gay couples and keep the women enslaved to unwanted pregnancy just to keep the sky god happy so they can get rich, too.

But gay marriage is a wedge issue that will peel voters from the Democrats. Once BushCo rolls out the $200 million ad campaign telling everyone how the economy is getting better and will be great in 2005 because of his tax cuts, he'll neutralize the economic issue. Then the wedge issues, like gay bashing, will work.

which can flourish only when one doesn't have to worry about providing for one's family. A great irony was that the republicans were able to get more mileage out of their divisive cultural issues during the Clinton economic years. I don't think that the republican propagandists are going to be able to convince Americans that homosexuals have taken their jobs away

5. Of course the economy is more important....thats the trick |
|
The Republicans keep everyone's attention on liberals 'and those damn queers' and that fires up his base and makes them forget all about how crappy the economy is. Its a distraction. Plain and simple.

Bush is dead no matter what. If he comes off too mean and nasty - he'll take a licking from the middle.
If he doesn't do enough, he'll take a licking from his base.
Either way, it hurts Bush more than Kerry.
Jeez, look at the polls. Every time the issue ignites - Kerry goes up and Bush goes down.
The economy is more important to people. And this can be spun easily - Bush wants to use gay marriage as an issue because he has no plans for the economy, etc. Another issue of mass distraction.
You can put it there with the Bush Administration's attempts to change the classification of Burger flipping jobs as manufacturing jobs. Why, because we are creating burger flipping jobs, and we are not creating (even losing) manufacturing jobs. This way, Bush can turn to the numbers and say "see, we are gaining manufacturing jobs." Even though people are moving from working at GM to McDonalds.
It can be so easily spun that I just can't see how the Bush Administration will get past it.

8. Gay Marriage wil only HELP the economy |
|
Lets look at what San Francisco is making in Marriage:
$300 on a hotel room (we homosexuals are not gonna stay at motel 6 the night before/after our wedding) $1000 on rings $500 on wedding clothes $100 on food as you wait in line to get married $82 for a marriage Licence $40 for a ceremony (i'm being generous here--the cermony at the city hall is 32) $200 for wedding dinner $100 for photos
Most of this money is being spent in San Francisco--the rest at home with receptions.
You know the average amount of money spend on weddings is around $20,000? The wedding industry is HUGE and would only welcome more money from homosexuals.
You want to help the economy? Help gay marriage.

Gay marriage should be an issue, but not right now. Now, we have more important stuff to discuss(like, the economy). Once * is out of the White House, then maybe it would be right ot make gay marriage an important issue.
p.s. Even Dennis Miller said that gay marriage shouldn't be that big a deal in the upcoming election

Well Dennis Miller is on top of my list of "People who I listen to. . ." right up there with Limbaugh and O'reily.
There is no good time to fight for civil rights so the fight must always be fought.

15. touchdown! and extra point, as well! |
|
you REALLY hit it there!
that is the PERFECT response for TV dems whenever this asiine wedge issue is brought up
the pugs KNOW they have NOTHING to run upon.....nothing
they'd like to turn gay marriages into Willy Horton, as it perfectly fits the propaganda paradigm of employing an issue most likely to ratchet up emotional responses, thereby short-circuiting any possible critical analysis of issues that are of critical imprtanceimportance to the common weal
