So are people still mad that Gavin Newsom won against the green party? |
|
Seeing as how he is taking a definitive stand on the gay marriage issue has anyone who previously didnt have respect for him, have it now?

1. Barney Frank might be. I got the impression that he thinks that Gavin |
|
is handing the republicans an election year issue on a silver platter.
Also, I thought it was highly distasteful to see Gavin Newsom on TV talking about how hard it was on him, personally, to take this stand.
Apparently people are, um, shouting at him.
It must be tough.

that Gavin is showing the kind of backbone I want to see in the Democrats. I want candidates that stand for what is right and say to hell with political expediency!

3. I'm pleasantly surprised by Gavin |
|
He's done several things already in addition to the marriage issue that have convinced me he's really trying. If he keeps this up I'll probably vote for him next time. He earns major points for standing up for gay and lesbian rights and not backing down.
In all fairness, even though I voted against him, I was never one of those who called him a Republican. It's just that here in SF our political spectrum is shifted so far left, that I actually have viable LEFTWING candidates I can vote for. Newsom is a good moderate Democrat. Of course, after this he'll be forever known as an example of those crazy left-wing SF liberals. :) I'm cool with that...

The story I heard is that Nancy Polosi(sp) invited him to the SOTU speech and he decided to act now. I think taking the offensive will derail the opposition. The image of people eager to wed will dispel the ugly stereotype of gays. I think that the Republicans have lost on this.
