Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd tack onto this one.
Well, if Friday night was good, Satuday was UNBELIEVABLE! That's it. We're out of everything (except T-shirts and we brought 68 -- we have 12 left). Bumper stickers, buttons, clothing stickers, postcards, position papers -- everything -- gone! (I had to take off MY "Dean" pin as I couldn't take the disappointed look on one lady's face who was very disappointed when I told her we were out.) Even people who hadn't decided on a candidate yet were saying, "Yeah, Dean, I like that guy." We, of course, would do our "spiel" and most would then grab position papers to be read later.
There are a lot of seniors who belong to the CDC and many of them are not on the internet. They wanted to know how to get involved with the campaign. I assured them that they did NOT have to be on the internet in order to get involved with the campaign and we signed 'em up on the spot. I assured them that I would register them for the campaign and that I would make sure the headquarters mails them regularly. Several asked how they could donate to the campaign and, of course, we had campaign forms and pre-addressed, stamped envelopes ready to give out.
Although, Dennis Kucinich came to speak (he shook my hand and wished us good luck) and there were LOTS of Kucinich supporters there, the Dean supporters outnumbered everyone.
Remember the lady who sells Dem. memorabelia? Well, she came and gave me an update. She said Dean was now outselling everyone more like 10-1.
Congressman McDermot (from Washington -- Seattle, I think) attended the Dean Meet & Greet we had on Friday night. He also came by our Dean table and said, "Nice table!" He hasn't officially endorsed anyone yet, but I got a STRONG feeling he's leaning towards Dean.
Oh yeah, in the original post I mentioned that our local CBS affiliate came by but we weren't interviewed. Well, several people said that they did a report on the convention, featured Kucinich and Dean (and the recall) and while they were talking about Dean they showed my picture. I've no idea why, but there it is -- I would have rather they showed Dean's handsome mug.
I DO have pictures but my hunkmeister isn't awake yet and he needs to do that techie thing he does so well. I don't have the heart to wake him up yet as he was such a trooper and he's not nearly the political animal I am.
Oh yeah, while the workshops were going on, we had this brainstorm that was inspired by the Dean blog. We decided to do a food drive, collect non-perishables, print up "Donated by 'Fresno for Dean'" labels, attach them to the cans/packages and donate them to a local food bank. (NEVER give us "down time.")
Anyway, I'll be back later with pictures. (I'm sure I'll be getting flamed for some of them, but what the hell -- some people have NO sense of humor.)
