Poll question: What is the truth about the war in Yugoslavia |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 05:05 PM by einniv
Select the choice that you feel is closest to the truth.
I realize that there are perhaps many perspectives and that perhaps there are few who agree 100% with either statement. I am trying to get a feel though for the general opinion on DU about the war in Yugoslavia. So, pick the statement that you feel is closest to the truth.
Choice #1 It was a humanitarian mission. Milosevich and the Serbs were much worse than their enemies and were committing attrocites and possibly genocide.
Choice #2 It was a strategic attack (re:IMF programs, resources, crushing of last European "socialist" country). It was started by Bush I and finished by Clinton.
(On Edit: sorry it didn't come out so pretty looking. My first poll and all)

3. a mix of both, I think.. |
|
it was a fairly nasty affair for all of the major players, particularly both the imperialist aggressors and Milosevic's jolly band. I don't see the necessity for a black/white view of it, common as the approach is.

I was trying to get a feel for how many basically believed the official line. (Not saying that is a bad thing btw)
On Edit: In My defense, after reviewing my text, I think I was plenty clear that I didn't expect that many would subscribe totally to one statement or the other. And, that there is plenty of room for "in between".

5. It was a war the terrorists won. |
|
The Croatian terrorists, that is, who had been carrying on IRA style (plant a bomb in a public place) terrorism to promote Croatian independence for 20-30 years before old Europe came in on their side. The Bush I - Clinton policy was to keep Yugoslavia together (and hopefully reform it) until European meddling made that impossible. And Bush I - Clinton got that right.

I knew it. I knew , no matter how hard I tried there would be some who couldn't be fit in to my "scale" because they are going at an angle to it. :)
Thanks for the insights.
