If McCain were to replace Cheney as VP and they were to win the election |
|
Do you believe McCain would have an effect on the way they govern? Would he soften their tone and/or change in any way the way they want to spend our money. I believe there would be no change what-so-ever. I believe he is every bit as radical as the entire Bush* Cabal but I know a lot of posters here seem to think McCain is different somehow. I also believe this is a real concern that we may actually be faced with.

1. They're not dumping Cheney. It's impossible. |

I'm as sure of it as I'm sure that Bush will be the Republican Presidential candidate.
Cheney is IN CHARGE. As a private citizen, he would be vulnerable to indictment, arrest, subpoena, etc.
Cheney has Bush wrapped around his finger. Just take a look at the quotes from the Paul O'Neill book or the stories about how Cheney picked himself as Veep (in a closed conference with Bush) and sidestepped the vetting process the other potentials were subjected to.
Cheney could say to Bush, "Go ahead and dump me. Then I start talking and within a week you are facing impeachment and charges of treason."

3. I dread the thought of McCain on the ticket |
|
because I think many independents would vote for Bush. Horrors! I can't even think of such a horrible thing happening to America.

4. The only good thing McCain would push for |
|
is Clean Elections.
But I doubt they'll sign him up. He might not be enough of a PNAC player.

5. I agree that McCain is the most worrisome replacement, he's |
|
more moderate, a "champion" of campaign finance reform, arguably an environmentalist, war hero. I don't see a big change in policy with McCain as VP, but I think the possibility of limited change might sway independents, moderates, etc.

6. McCain would/could have no effect on policy. |
|
But he would be a valuable addition to the ticket. His ego is large enough that he just might go for it as "President in waiting". A few months ago I would have ruled this out, but now I don't know.
These people will stop at nothing to keep the WH, absolutely nothing. Besides their lust for power and wealth, their burning desire to implement their extremist agenda and their fear of prosecution, they realize that being removed from office in the midst of a "war" (several in some sense) would be an unprecedented rebuke. They are also so deluded as to think that a few more roles of the dice will have everything turn out nicely and prove what geniuses they all are. Of course this is nonsense.
Driving these people out will be very, very hard. Be surprised by nothing that they and their fellow travelers might do or say.

McCain would shut his mouth and play the Loyal Soldier.
Which, when serving Tyrants IS NOT the way to go!
