Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 12:52 PM by klook
Important announcement for those in and around Atlanta:

Emergency Action Alert For Thursday, March 4, 4:00 PM

Come To The SLOGO Hearing To Demand A Voter-Verified Ballot Printout Now!!

Unless there is strong public pressure NOW on Georgia Senate SLOGO members -- that’s the State and Local Government Operations committee -- we will lose a precious opportunity to get voter-verified paper ballots for the November 2004 elections.

Take The Afternoon Off, Show Up In Person -- And Bring Your Friends:

Where:
Legislative Office Building (LOB), Room 310 -- Across the street from the State Capitol, on the south side.
404-656-5030

Near MARTA Georgia State station

For Details on the committee and the bill:
Go to: http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04/fulltext/sb340.htm

What We Know And Don’t Know:
We have been told that at least the committee will ask to see printer demonstrations, but we don’t know for a fact that the bill will even come up or if a vote will be taken on it. We also don’t know when the bill might possibly be discussed -- just that if it is, it will be sometime between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

This should not deter anyone from showing up!! It is crucial that committee members be made to feel the concern of Georgia voters over this all-important issue!

Please be present to support your democracy!!

4. GA SB 340 would require paper trail for electronic voting
GA State Sen. Nadine Thomas (District 10) has introduced SB 340 to require a paper receipt for electronic voting machines. This bill is currently in the Ethics Committee.

Opponents of the paper receipts say they're "too expensive" or would pose "technical nightmares." Oh, yeah? So why is that when you buy a lottery ticket in Georgia, you get a paper receipt? (Not to mention ATMs, gas pumps, parking garages, etc.) What is so hard about this??
