I think I'm gonna donate to the Bush campaign. |
|
Hear me out.
I'm thinkin' I'll head over to georgewbush.com and donate 1 cent with my credit card.
Certainly the transaction has to cost them more than a penny, to say nothing of the thank-you note.
What's wrong with this plan?

I already have my name on multiple * mailing lists and send back the envelope (Scripto over my info) filled w/ old mail and pennies. They have yet to catch on.....they're not too bright.
I like your idea and will utilize it as well.

Could we theoretically bankrupt the Bush* campaign this way?
I wonder how many $0.01 donations it would take to spend $200,000,000.00 of their money.
If we estimate $0.50 per transaction total cost, we would have to make 400,000,000 donations. At $0.01 cost per transaction to us, that is $4,000,000.00 total in donations.
Do you think we could scrape together even a significant fraction of that? Try it and see if they even accept the donation first, of course.

At $12.00 net loss for them, this is merely $17,000,000.00 to bankrupt the campaign completely!
And as I said above, even a fraction of this would eliminate a big chunk of their 'warchest'!

I think by law they have to process and report every check sent to them. Unless they outsource the whole thing, it's got to cost more than a dollar to process it all.

Most major campaigns outsource check processing. I really don't know where the $12 per check processing come from. But it doesn't cost that much.
Most banks charge large accounts a per item processing fee, but it's not that much.

At least 30 cents, plus around 2% of the transaction or more.
Wonder how long it will take them to catch on? Probably a while since the original contract web programmer lives in India and doesn't care one bit.
Then again, you may find your credit card number, SS#, DOB and address posted on a hacker web site in the near future.

35. send in hard currency (pennies) |
|
Send 500 pennies in a box mixed with sawdust to protect them. Mix in some sand, and some motor oil to keep them from sticking together.
Since the pennys will have to be counted and "tubed" before depositing, and cleaning the pennys from the packaging could take a while... :-) Labour is more valuable than money, burn their labour.

Better to wait until you can get hold of a postage-paid envelope you can tape on the box of pennies...then they get to pay.

and it might cost Bush more money. On talkleft.com there was a article telling people that the Bush website has a section were supporters can go to get help to write letters to their local newspapers. Supposely a person goes to this section puts in the zip code and a list of local newspapers comes up. At this point a person can write a letter and send it to the local newspaper. Apperently, the website cannot determine whether a person is a Bush supporter. Some liberal and Bush opponents have already tries it with success. I will come back with more information soon. You can also go to talkleft.com to see if the article is still there.

36. Here's the email I just got for my 2 cent contribution: |
|
Thank you for your contribution to Bush-Cheney '04 and personal support of the President and Vice President.
President Bush has brought dignity and honor to the Office of the President; he's guided our nation through challenging times. But there is still much to be done.
The President has set ambitious goals for the next four years. He's determined to strengthen our economy and create jobs; he's committed to strengthening our national security and expanding peace and freedom throughout the world.
To do that, he must win reelection. It may be months before the Democrats settle on a candidate and the President is officially re-nominated. But the work of re-electing President Bush must begin now. So thanks for your early support and generosity.
Sincerely, Marc Racicot Chairman, Bush-Cheney '04
PS: Forward this email to your friends and encourage them to make a contribution as well at:

for your contribution (like we got at our house) be sure to send something back to them so they have to give a little to the USPS. Me? I sent a bumper sticker: "Somebody else for president". Cost the campaign a wee bit of postage and the time for some campaign worker to open it up. Who knows, might even plant some seeds of thought.

39. Write Letters at Bush/s Expense |
|
Here is the information you need to write letters to your local newspapers at Bush's expense.
From Long Story, Short Pier:
Billmon has uncovered the most glorious hack. It seems georgewbush.com has a really keen tool: enter your ZIP code, and it’ll bring up a list of your local papers. Type in the letter you wish to send to the editor(s), check off the papers in question, press the “send” button, and presto! You’ve siphoned off a tiny chip of his 200-million–dollar war chest and used it for truth, justice, and the American way. (If you’re at a loss, Billmon suggests you take the HRC or Lambda Defense Fund letters as boilerplate.)
What are you waiting for? Go! Go!
We'll be putting some great letters in the comments to this post which you can use for your letters. Feel free to add others in the comments that the rest of us can use. The part we like the best is that the Bush Campaign is paying for the funding of the technology to do this.
