1. Where did you hear this?
Please, no. Though she was among the worst of the whores in 2000, she's been hammering the criminal regime of late.

3. She hates everyone
Her wriitng is usually good--especially now that she has the Bushes to pick on, but she must be a miserable human being. Can't imagine someone that unhappy and sure of themselves making any friends.

5. About Time too
Her columns were getting on my nerves with their double entendres and references to movies and the New York scene. She managed to trivilaize every topic she touched. Good riddance I say.

6. I put her name in google news and only found columns
but I did find an interesting quote on the Bush misadministration:

(snip) Even when conservatives have all the marbles, they still act as if they're under siege. Now that they are under siege, it is no time for them to act as if they're losing their marbles. (snip)

Also, something I'd never heard:

(snip) But Bush loyalists regularly plant information they want known in the Drudge Report. (snip)

The article is:
"It's ugly when control freaks lose control"

7. I wouldn't be so quick to cheer
I agree Maureen Dowd was terrible in her columns about the Clintons but she has been doing a good job lately of hammering Bush and his friends.

The New York Times new executive editor has hired David Brooks, editor of the conservative Weekly Standard, to write a column twice a week. I wouldn't cheer the firing of ANY Times columnist who is even vaguely against Bush.

The new executive editor of The New York Times is the right-winger Bill Keller. He may plan to clean house of all centrists and/or left-leaning columnists.

If Keller fires Dowd to make room for David Brooks, we are in big trouble.

9. I like Dowd despite her being wrong about the Clintons
She writes with style - something Brooks has never learned.

Granted her interview and slash can be unfair, it is better than 24/7/365 Bush lies and PR.

12. I Hope Not
Dowd is not a serious commentator, but she tends to hit the nail on the head much of the time. Her best and most accurate was her characterization of the Bush family as the "Wasp Corleones". I would be surprised to see the NYT fire any Pulitzer Prize winner.

13. I saw it in News Max 3-4 weeks ago
or someother wing nut rag. They said she was fired for misquoting Bush. They had the quote and it wasn't a misquote, it wasn't even misleading but it wasn't the full quote.

Since then I've not heard anything else. A bad rumor?

I have a love hate relationship with Dowd too. I want her when there is a repug in office then I want her fired when there is a Dem in office. <wink> I think she's just gonna go after power cause it is more interesting.

19. THAT? That was months ago.
Right around the Jayson Blair affair. She was pilloried for adding an elipsis in a Bush quote, that helped bolster her point. Jeez, for as many presstitutes that repeated the discredited "Al Gore invented the Internet" meme, I'd think they'd be a little more lenient.

18. I think it would have been a pretty big story on cable news
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 05:23 PM by Composed Thinker
Fox News would have a field day with such a topic, if it were true.

20. Regardless of whatever she said about Clinton, Dowd's being one of the
ONLY voices that has consistently and coherently written critically about this Administration makes her essential for American Journalism to retain any shred of respect today. She has courageously done what no others in mainstream media would do. While others retreat into doublethink or sycophancy, Dowd has provided journalism in these very strange times, and she deserves full credit for it. Especially with such prevalent reapparances in the op-ed pages by nightmare Charles Krauthammer or imbecile William Safire, Dowd should be supported by anyone who calls him or herself a progressive.
