Bush says War on Terra' helped women's rights
President Bush on Friday hailed the liberation of 25 million women in Afghanistan and Iraq and vowed to continue promoting democracy — especially in the Middle East — so that more women can claim "their rightful place in societies that were once incredibly oppressive and closed."

In his remarks Friday, Bush portrayed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the effort to improve the lives of women. He said the Taliban, which ruled Afghanistan before U.S. went to war there, were "barbaric," preventing women from holding jobs or attending school.
"Every woman in Iraq is better off because the rape rooms and torture chambers of Saddam Hussein are forever closed. He is a barbaric person," Bush said.

Self-Immolation Of Women On The Rise In Western Provinces

The Afghan government is expressing concern over the growing number of women in Herat Province who have killed themselves through self- immolation. Suraya Sobah Rang, Afghanistan's deputy women's affairs minister, says forced marriages and a continued lack of access to education is contributing to the growing despair among Herat's women.

<snip>

During the five-year rule of the Taliban militia, women were not allowed to work or study. They could not leave their homes without a male escort and were forced to wear the all-encompassing burqa.

Since the fall of the Taliban in late 2001, women have once again been given the right to study and work. But activists say women in many parts of Afghanistan -- including Herat, which is ruled with an iron fist by provincial governor and warlord Ismail Khan -- still face repression and harassment.

Virdee says the continued crackdown on women's rights is contributing to the rise in self-immolation cases.

More lies from a lying POS par excellence.

6. Meanwhile, in the world outside of Dubyastan
our Afghan puppet is working frantically to keep the veneer of "progress" from crumbling:

Afghan President Hamid Karzai offered Afghan men a trade Monday in an attempt to convince them to let their women vote in upcoming elections.

"Please, my dear brothers, let your wives and sisters go to the voter registration process," Karzai told a gathering to mark International Women's Day. "Later, you can control who she votes for, but please, let her go."

Does anyone dare? There were more women in Iraq attending university than men before he invaded. This sick sob is hung up on rape and torture. He gets a gleam in his eye when he speaks of it.

He has trotted joker smile Laura and has told her what to say and she dutifully says whatever she has been told to say. He obviously does not know what Karzai has said re the women's right to vote in Afganistan. He has done everything he can do to diminish the woman and her reproductive, as well as her ordinary health, in the case of all the women senior citizens living on SS and depending on medicare, in this country--and he trots out the little girl Laura the leech, complete with her bad eye lift that makes her look cross eyed in one eye, to show us all how women should behave--be proud to do nothing, be nothing and know nothing and sponge off others as much as possible while enjoying the good elite life.

These pictures look like "let them eat cake"--the royal couple acting on stage again--and he does it ever so badly. He looks like he smells and she does not know her role exactly except to stand there and put up with his bad acting.
