CNN apes Fox in Spinning Spanish Election

I watched the nightly news on CNN at 10 tonight, and they spun the story about the Socialists winning the election in Spain EXACTLY the same way that other DUers have reported that Fox spun it. In the initial sound-bite "headlines" run down, they said after reporting the election result (these were the exact words), "Is this a victory for Al Queda?"

That was the way that the story was framed--like that was just the obvious reaction to it, it didn't even require justification. Then later they interviewed some asshole "terrorism expert" from Harvard and framed the interview around the same question of whether this was a victory for Al Queda (he said yes) and whether this would spur more terrorism in the future (he equivocated).

Anyway, I guess its not just "GOP-TV" Fox News, apparently the whole corporate media has decided to run that angle.

2. This surprises you?
U.S. media is wholly owned by the GOP. Turn the damned tv off and get your news elsewhere!

7. I'm with you, DemoTex!! I got my shortwave a year ago and haven't
listened to American radio since...nor really looked at the "news."

Today, I heard the reports from the BBC World Service about Spain and Russia. No punches pulled. Even reported how the Putin controlled the media totally during the election cycle, something which I followed for months in the WMW....

BBC, Radio Netherlands, Radio Canada International....outstanding....and some good commentaries on Radio Australia as well...

Like Al Queda gives a fuck who is in charge - they hate the West period, this is pure spin for dubya and his lies...

The coverage this weekend from CNN's international people were fairly straight in covering this story...it's the CNN domestic weasel's that suck *'s ass...

5. Breathtaking
Of course, CNN pushing propaganda for Bush's war was far more of a victory of Al Queda than anything Spain could have done.

Can these American networks possibly face-up to the way their actions resulted in a massive spread of terrorism in the middle east? They blantantly promoted Bush as president and then the war; they bear much of the guilt for Al Queda's rise in popularity.

9. FAUX at its best.
I heard some right wing analyst this afternoon saying that these election results are nothing more than a "reward for terrorism" what a bunch of jag offs.

"FAUX News, We distort you comply"

11. Sure as hell
My jaw dropped when I heard that crap.

Perhaps they are just getting worried because the Chimpsters chances are starting to look grim as well?

12. Yeah....
...the funny thing is that if you watch the commentators on Fox News or listen to the creeps on talk radio, they think that CNN is a prime example of the "liberal media." Remember Bernie Goldberg's book "Bias" alleging liberal bias at CNN?

Of course, I guess in the mental world of people that believed that the defeated, impoverished, disease-stricken, bombed-out shell of a nation that Iraq already was a year ago was some kind of threat to the United States, it's no great stretch to think that the "liberal media" would be spinning the electoral defeat of conservatives by liberals as a "victory for Al-Queda."

Go figure.
