Has any group claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings yet? |
|
typically the responsible terrorist groups usually claim their handiwork either before or after the incident. Has this happened in Spain yet? I understand the m.o doesn't quite fit ETA's and the evidence supporting the al-qaeda connection seems suspect (stolen van wht detonators and audiotaped passages from the Koran?) at best. Has anyone here heard of somebody claiming it was them yet?

Yes, a Morrocan-based group associating themselves with al-Queda released both a tape and statement claiming responsibility. In addition, Spain has arrested a group of 5 for the bombing, at least one of which appears to have ties to this group.
Aznar's insistence on attempting to blame ETA cost him the election. Oh, yeah -- Aznar's party lost to the Socialists, and the new leader of Spain says he's going to pull Spanish troops out of Iraq by June 30 unless the UN takes over there.
I think that should pretty much bring you up to date...
