Laid-Off Factory Worker Wins Powerball
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=3&u=/ap/20040315/ap_on_re_us/brf_powerball_winners

INDIANAPOLIS - A man who was laid off last week from his job at a tractor factory claimed a $89 million Powerball prize Monday with the sole winning ticket.

Tim Rivers said he and his wife, Pam, plan to buy a new house and move out of their mobile home in the town of Salem in southern Indiana.

The couple, who are both 24 and have two young children, opted for the cash option and will receive $49.9 million before taxes, a Hoosier Lottery spokeswoman said.

This is a nice story.

3. I hope they survive the influx of wealth. Most people end up more unhappy
than they were before getting a huge windfall. I knew a guy who won 4 million and he was hounded by former friends, shirt-tail relatives and every damn charity on the planet...it almost drove him nuts. I should give him a call, it's been a couple years (making note on desk)...

5. Bullshit. I'll take the "problems"
of a lotto winner ANY fucking day over the problems of being a single mother about to lose my job with too many bills, no money, and no child support for over six months.

I'm always hearing that bullshit, and if I hear it one more time, I'm going to throw something! Give me a winning lotto ticket and I think I can handle the so-called "problems."

4. Whoop-de-fucking-do.
I'm a single mother close to being terminated with little savings, tons of bills, and no child support for over six months. At 39, I live with my parents, who are themselves desperately in need of money. What the hell I went to college for when I can't find anything over 24k/year, especially around here in Northeast Ohio, is totally beyond me.

Just what I fucking needed to hear, yet another goddamned lucky lottery winner, and just when I can't fucking take it anymore. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

6. I'm sorry to hear of your situation
These are tough times for many of us but I have to disagree with your negative thoughts towards this lottery winner. I'm very happy for him. He needs the money and I'm glad something good happened to change his life. I hope things work out for you as well. But being angry at other people's good fortune isn't going to make your life improve. You cannot control everything that happens in your life but you can control some things. I hope you go out and try to change the things you can. Good luck.

7. "I'm sorry to hear of your situation"
I'm just glad to have heard someone won the fortune who needed it, and not someone who already was loaded or whatever.

That was the whole point of the post. Didn't mean to create any negative vibes around here.

First thing they should do is get a good financial laywer to deal w/ this.

I agree with the poster who asked if they'll vote for Bush or not!? Hope they'll remember who was responsible for the layoffs to begin with and vote Shrub's ass right outta there!

10. I hope I wasn't (or am) trying to create neg. vibes
That was my point of the post like you-glad that someone won that needed it. But I'm just a bit miffed why people go all negative when good things happen to people. That's all. Sorry if anyone took offense and I'm not trying to attack or single out anyone. I just think trying to spread good will, luck and happiness to everyone and hope that people join me in this vision.

9. I have been trying, for years,
to no avail. I work my ass off for my boss for three years, and he pulls the rug out from under me today because he wants to bring in his old legal secretary full-time and make me part-time focusing on just paralegal work, of which there's very little of in his real estate firm (I was trained as a paralegal, not a secretary, and my secretarial skills are, admittedly, weak, and I hate it, to boot, that's not where my abilities and training are).

I was off work for almost a year before I got this job with him (he attends my church and needed a secretary when his old one had a baby and didn't want to come back), and it was a hell that I simply cannot, WILL NOT repeat, no money at all, my broke parents breathing down my neck 24/7, unable to get the kid anything at all he needed, no child support, the goddamned fucking debt collectrolls harassing me all the time for money I didn't have when they made money off of the misery and misfortune of people like me, bills up to here and no way to pay for them, my hard-won credit going down the tubes, no health insurance for me or the kid, sending out five million resumes a week and applying for a million jobs a week and NOT GETTING A SINGLE FUCKING CALL FOR INTERVIEWS, NOT ONE, when I have a bachelor's AND a paralegal certificate, so what the fuck to do these people want, anyway, the only calls coming from the inhuman debt collectrolls who didn't care that I had no money at all.

And I didn't have a car payment then, now I do and I can just see them taking the fucking car and not having any way at all to get another one. I CANNOT GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN, I CANNOT! I'd rather just pick up gun or take a bottle of sleeping pills than deal with that shit again.

I'm not married, I don't have the luxury of at least having a husband to help, I live with parents who are as broke as I am and who are breathing down my neck for more money NOW when I have a job!

And I'm sick and fucking tired of always being happy for others when things never seem to happen to me, no matter WHAT the fuck I do. Maybe if I guzzled down a bottle of white zinfandel I'd probably feel a bit better.

13. Wish I could do something to help you out
I guess there are no good words to say to you right now. Yeah, maybe a glass of wine will relax you but it won't solve all your problems.

12. Since there are lotteries, a steady flux of lottery winners is
a statistical certainty. Maybe this anger should be directed elsewhere. There ARE evil rich people out there directly and indirectly responsible for your difficulties. Lottery winners aren't among them.
