Poll question: Republican-Democratic Party |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 01:21 PM by mdmc
How far away are we from this? Alot of my leftie friends feel like there really is just one party - the democratic republican party. In my upstate NY area, the Democrats are conservative and the republicans are moderate or liberal. Then we have the WFP and Greens to the left, and the Independance and Conservastive parties on the right. Liberals and Right to Life lost the ballot slots and never recovered them.
So how would you vote?

1. If we really *must* have a combo party (which I doubt we will), |
|
couldn't we give it a slightly less unwieldy name? When Lincoln ran in 1864 with the Democrat Andrew Johnson, the party was rechristened the Union Party. Surely we could come up with something snappier than Democratic Republican. After all, it's already been done.
How about Demopublican? Or Republicrat? Or the Sellout Party?

Easier to cast the conservatives as Nazi's and WFP as Commies.

http://www.theamericanparty.org/Here's some info from their website: http://www.theamericanparty.org/aboutamerican/item.nhtml?profile=aboutamerican&UID=102Based on what little I could bear to read, I don't think it's the name we would wish to adopt with our little "fusion" party.

How else would we know which party we are voting for. What is at stake? I have a great imagination.

7. Have you ever voted for a Conservative? |
|
My local County legislator is a Conservative Democrat. The late Jake Gunther used to run as a Democrat and Conservative. The Republicans almost always secured the WFP (working family party) line against Gunther.
Labels can also be misleading; I usually vote on the WFP line (usually cross endorse the Democrat, unless the Democrat chooses to run on the Conservative line). HOWEVER, in a race for 9th District Court Judge, one of the Republican candidates secured the WFP line and the RTL line! I almost voted for a RTL Judge. In this case, the WFP line was represented by a RTL'er. Outrageous!!
