12. The thread from last night was a wonder to behold for those of us
who missed it and had to read it late.

Are we to assume, "blew up real good?"

That thread was completely enjoyable to read, although there were a couple of removed posts, where, we must imagine, the coupster du jour lost his normally enviable sense of control!

Great moments from the first coup by the ruling minority.

Venezuela taxman targets media

Chavez is locked in a fight with private media
The Venezuelan government has ordered three privately-owned television stations to pay up to $2m in taxes for airing opposition ads free of charge.

The stations broadcast opposition endorsements of a strike in late 2002, which had been called to try to force President Hugo Chavez from office. The stations are Venevision, Televen and Radio Caracas Television (RCTV).
(snip)

Officials said the free broadcasts were a taxable item under the law.

Most private television, radio and newspaper companies in Venezuela openly oppose the government.

Why shouldn't we do the same thing here? Our Clear Channel, and other crap channels vomit vast amounts of right-wing pure propaganda and actual lies into our common space around the clock, day by day, week by week, year after year.

Why shouldn't they be regulated according to their actual political content? Why SHOULD the right-wing get free access to the American voters decade after decade?
