GUNS and Leftists
Hey There-
As a person that grew up with guns in a very left-wing, strong union household, I've taken that interest with me through my life and even today, enjoy shooting for recreation. The problem I have is that all the gun owners associations are run by right wing loons. Geezus, i can't even go to the shooting range without seeing some twink-brained reference to the 'evil-librUls' posted somewhere (how horrible that we believe in RESPONSIBLE gun ownership).

I've started talking with others about starting leftist shooters associations (portside and liberals with guns are listed on my website), but i am curious as to whether any of you know of any existing gun owners associations with a leftist leaning/friendly atmosphere.

Thanks!
Will

2. A Good Idea
The ill association started because the right-wingers succeeded at "capturing" the RKBA issue after WWII. They are trying to do the same thing with patriotism these days.

I'm not a big firearms fan myself, but other than establishing some basic rules about gun use and ownership, I'm not too pleased by all the anti-gun effort of the Left. The real problem is the violence and rage in society.

Plenty of balls-to-the-wall radical organizations are pro-gun, and most of them are about as crazed as the right-wing militias are. But I would guess that there are millions of liberals who may hate the NRA but don't hate firearms.

4. Yep ... I just checked the foum name
I didn't check it out myself when I posted. (Not that I'm cowering in fear of being flamed.)

You may want to ask a moderator to move the thread.

5. Don't move a thing!
I can't understand why each and every discussion of the 2nd Amendment is sent to the Gun Ghetto. Considering the fact that many here refer to the Bush regime as fascist in nature, why wouldn't an individual seek effective small arms for their own protection? Would you rather be forced into the Black Maria that'll eventually come or be able to at least offer some return fire for the trouble?

8. I'm not so sure this is a 2nd Ammendment discussion.
And if it were, the "Gun Ghetto" is exactly where it should be.

Would you rather this thread were moved to the lounge? The poster is asking for information on club-related (psuedo-social) activities.

6. Have you looked into Gun Owners of America?
Not as bad as NRA
I know that's not much of a recommendation, but unfortunately that's the way it falls these days, thanks to the NRA polarizing everything out of proportion. But because of the NRA's antics, I think there may be support for a left-leaning gun advocacy group, from all the normal people having been run out by the Freepers.

9. GOA
I know about them. Not anyone I'd be particularly inclined to join.

If the NRA is aligned with the George B*s* royalists, GOA is aligned with the Pat Buchanan wing of the right. So I guess that could make them an improvement over the NRA, or even worse, depending on your viewpoint :)

I've said many times, what we need is a liberals/progressives for the second amendment type group, one that is firmly pro-gun rights but otherwise has zero tolerance for right wing lunacy.

10. Pat Buchanan
Yep, you may not agree with him, but at least he's 100% for American workers, which is more than can be said for either of the two candidates we have now. GOA is more of a rights organization than the NRA. Wayne LaPierre only cares about his own aggrandizement. That's why I dropped my membership.

12. No, NOT the GOA
The GOA is an enterpise made to channel money to Larry Pratt.

I suggest the CCRKBA.

7. If you have any luck let me know!
I don't actually own a gun, having a toddler and all...

But that's my one crossover issue - I fully support the 2nd ammendment, simply because if the government ever gets too tyrannical here, I want to be able to shoot back.

They have actually worked with the good guys before - one of their people helped uncover Harris/Diebold.

15. Pink Pistols..
...they are a gay group empahsising marksmanship and also a pro-gun ownership position, so maybe you could say they are liberal pro-gunners.

17. I've spoke with a rep from Pink Pistols
I was told that the group leaned more towards libertarian than liberal.
