2. Outstanding effort...............
by our own DU members! One of the greatest protest songs ever written backed up by stirring visuals. A big :toast: to our DU member's and of course, Buffalo Springfield. Now let's get out there and let our voices be heard today!! Thanks matcom, I needed that!

5. how this came about
for new people or anyone who missed it when this first came out.

I had done a thread of the lyrics from "For What It's Worth" illustrated with pictures of national/internation protests. (a change of pace from Cartoon threads!)

prolesunited contacted me and said she wanted to turn it into a QT movie incorporating the original music.

in expanding on the images from the thread, she was able to include contributions from many DUers in the piece.

i think proles did a remarkable job! it's nice and VERY timely to see it again today!

10. I looked though my files but didn't find it
if it was in the original thread, that is DEEP in the archives now.

you could PM prolesunited and see if she still has the source picture.

(of course, she'll be busy at a march today!)

16. Not to bash a classic song, but it is more than 30 years old.
Where are the modern protest songs of today? Any rap, Seattle, Euro-pop, that's taking this on from the last 2 years? Hell, even New Wave in the 80s had plenty of anti-nuclear, US/USSR cold war, apartheid, famine, Nicaragua protest songs!

18. Furthermore, the song is sort of saying that signs and protesting isn't...
...enough, and that people need to wake the fuck up to the truth and go beyond signs and protests. Yet the video is series of pictures of people with their signs at protests.

19. the song is directed to those who are not
out protesting, true.

but, it is inspirational to those who are putting the message out to WAKE UP others to the truth.

and, as for it being over 30 years old... well, so am I.

20. The 60's and 70's
produced an incredible, I mean incredible cultural legacy that is hard to compete with. The draft, and living before Roe v. Wade may have provided some inspiration. What an amazing period. This (comparative) youngster says thanks.
