Brilliant Chimp Quote from Nighline
"I hope they get well real quick so they can return to their duty stations in Iraq."

George W. Bush to the cameras that had followed him to Walter Reed
Hospital Ward 57, where he visited soldiers who had LOST LIMBS in the war on Iraq.

3. Reminds me of Monty Python
Are they supposed to keep fighting until they have no limbs?

Jesus.

6. Hell, Dubya probably thinks the troops love him so much,
even amputees will go back and fight. Soldiers aren't stupid, and they know an incompetent commander when they see one. The military will be glad to see the last of this most incompetent CINC.

7. I watched Nightline and did not hear it that way.
My ears are pretty tuned in to Bushspeak. I don't believe that that is what he said. He did say that he hoped the soldiers got well quickly and he also said that many of them told him they wanted to get well and return to their units.

The quote is what I had remembered, but may be faulty.

Mod, please delete if necessary.

Will watch for the transcript.

11. bushspeak
Kudos to you. I don't know how you can keep your ear tuned to his voice. If I can read a transcript of what he saying I do better but I have never been able to keep my mind on his dissembling voice even when he was running for Governor. That is our biggest peril - we underestimated him then and now.

9. I heard him say
that he had visited some soldiers with "serious" injuries who told him they hoped they got well very soon so they could return to their units in Iraq, so when he made the statement you heard, he was prolly trying to create the impression he was "supporting the wishes of the troops".

I'm sure that men with "serious" injuries...lost limbs, etc...are just itching to go back for more! That is, you see, because they are taking their inspiration from the example of their Commander in Chief when he was their age....Oh...wait....I mean...Um... Oh, never mind!

12. That SOB
I heard that myself. If that Son of a Bitch had ever served in the military himself he would know that if you get airlifted back to the world you aren't going to be going back to anywhere.

How can it be called AWOL when there is no indication that he ever did a single thing to serve his country in his life? He took flight lessons, he screwed around in a jet for a while (the most notable report of him actually flying I've ever seen said he took a jaunt into Canada and back to Texas once), he played around for a couple of weekend meetings, and then he just flat up and quit.

Worthless Son of a Bitch, no more and no less.

16. A friends nephew was injured
a few weeks ago when his Humvee came under attack (I think this was in or right outside of Baghdad). Two of his fellow soldiers were killed, and he was sent to a hospital in Germany with a stomach full of shrapnel. After coming out of surgery, he called his aunt and said "well, they gave me a purple heart and orders to return to Baghdad as soon as possible". The kid was nearly in shock, because his injuries had been pretty bad. Sadly, I can't say that i'm terribly surprised by the news. We've GOT to get these bastards out of office in November!

17. Fuck Him oh by the way
"Also while at Walter Reed, the president received MRIs, or magnetic resonance imaging scans, to help diagnose knee pain that bothers him when running. He also dropped in on Secretary of State Colin Powell, who was recovering from prostate cancer surgery on Monday. He was released shortly after the president's visit."

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20031218_2304.html

Wanta bet he spent more time getting the MRI for his knee than with the troops

18. That report
was from back in December. He probably needed to go back to Walter Reed for a follow up on the knee and figured he squeeze in another photo op.
