Sentimental Journey - Howard Dean Nostalgia |
|
After listening to the Guy James show today, I still needed more Democracy so I clicked and pointed over to CSpan and listened to the speech that got me going in the Primaries (4 times) - Howard Dean's speech to the DNC winter meeting. I was actually in tears. I think I'll be replaying all 68 videos they have of Dean, or as many as I can.
Before anyone flames me, yeah yeah yeah, I'll vote for Kerry - but my heart still belongs to Howard Dean, and his current eforts - Democracy for America.
What got me all teary about Dean was this from his speech -
" Because I looked in the mirror and I knew that if my political career were about myself that I would not have signed that bill. But my political career has never been about getting elected. I didn't even seek the governorship. I became governor because my predecessor died in office 12 years ago.
My political career is about change. And this campaign is about change. What we're going to do here is, we're first going to change this party. Because this party needs to look in the mirror and ask itself: ``Is this party about the next election or is it about changing America--about changing America?''
This party needs to be about changing America, because only by changing America will we win back the White House.
I want a party that stands unashamedly for equal rights for all Americans. I want a party that stands unashamedly for health care for single American. I want a party that stands unashamedly for balanced budgets and taking care of poor kids and voting together and healing the divides, instead of expressing the divides and exploiting them the way the Republican Party has so shamelessly done since 1968. "
Any other Deaniacs out there feelin' nostalgic?

At every turn when there has been an imbalance of power, the truth questioned, or our beliefs and values distorted, the change required to restore our nation has always come from the bottom up from our people. Howard Dean

I don't know if nostalgic is the word. I still feel like I got ripped up by my own party.
And I will vote for Kerry. I just REALLY REALLY REALLY wish it was Dean.
I won't ever stop wishing that. The guy MOVES me like never before.

4. I am finally getting past the getting ripped feeling |
|
But I just don't feel for Kerry what I felt for Dean. I'm not inspired by JFK, and I really really miss Howard Dean's campaign speeches.

8. Thank goodness he's out there again. |

I was DEPRESSED when he disappeared recently.
I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my Dose of Dean. Without him around, I don't give a rip.

9. We just don't have a good voting system |
|
This whole primary system where they pick off candidates one by one isn't the right way to go.
We should let all the candidates campaign a longer time, instead of this sequentialized series of state primaries.
Or let NY and CA hold their primaries first. I'm sick of NH and IA running the country.
Check out "approval voting". It's a system where you pick more than one candidate you "approve" of. Lets a few people vote for Nader as well as voting for Kerry.
It's been mathematically proven that when there's more than one candidate for an office, a simple yes/no vote is NOT democratic.
Meanwhile, we aren't even able to talk about having a more accurate voting system. We're stuck just begging Congress to require Diebold not to mangle our votes.

10. I even bought a Perfect Storm kit off ebay. |
|
December was a very optimistic time and I miss that.
Last year from the lead up to war till the start of the primaries Dean was the only real light of hope that I found in an otherwise dark year.
I'm all in for Kerry now but Dean was the real real deal.

Can't wait til 1030 and Face the Nation. Does anyone know if the dinner will be broadcast this week - with Bill Clinton, and perhaps Dean endorsing kerry?

<3 Kucinich more, but <3 Dean too. Gave the Dems back their spine, before Kerry stole his schtick and the media stomped on him for saying that he'd break up media monopolies.
Now we have a candidate who snowboards in Idaho while B*sh spends a tiny fraction of his disgustingly large pile of corporate money to define him before the campaign even begins in earnest. Riiiiiight...
edit: damn them typos >_<
