Bush joking about not finding WMD's - Gaffe of the year.
We have to keep this going. This is worse than Dukakis in a tank or Ford freeing Poland, and W's dad marveling over a supermarket scanner. This is joking while braver men than Bush are dying in Iraq. Thank God Kerry said something. Voters please rid us of this abomination of a president.

1. "Gaffe of the year"? No way
It's only March.

I'm sure there are worse ones to come.

Bush's remark is a callous and insensitive slap in the face to all who fought (and fight), and especially to all who were wounded and DIED in his misadventure in Iraq.

"Pretty hard to beat"?

40. Grow up, you guys-- it was mildly funny,
self-depricating and offered in a forum where it's expected to lampoon one's mistakes.

What's most annoying is how desperate dems are looking to nail Bush with ANYTHING that will possibly, remotely, conceivably make him look bad.

Who's being humorless here?

45. And if a Democratic president had been in office.....
and did the exact same thing would you feel the same as you do at this point.

I seriously doubt it.

I'll admit, I voted for Bush in an area that was overwhelmingly Democratic more out of a protest against something about Gore that I can't remember anymore. That said, I was willing to give Bush the benefit of the doubt as to how he would handle the job.

At this point however, even if I had planned on voting for Bush again this year (I'm not) I wouldn't vote for him now based on his insensitive conduct during the press dinner and I'll tell you what....If a Democratic president had done the same thing I would vote against him as well.

The leader of a country that sends his citizens off to fight a war should have a certain sense of decorum in dealing with issues that relate to that specific conflict. Bush has shown time and time again that not only does he lack any sort of decorum but with this stunt he has shown himself to lack even the most basic sense of good taste and common sense that a president should have.

O.K. my rants over.

He pulled a fast one on the country by lying about Iraqi WMD's and sent hundreds of troops to their deaths over a lie. Now he jokes about it? How is it self deprecating? He's rubbing our noses in the fact that he pulled a fast one on us. The WMD lies were NOT mistakes. They were cold and caluculated propoganda. "Ooops, no WMD's, hahahahahaha, see, I can joke about it, so it must be no big deal..." BULLSHIT!!

If he wanted to show himself in a "humurous" way, why not use falling off the scooter, or falling off the sofa while eating pretzels, or dropping his dog, or putting on a flight suit in his Top Gun wannabe photo-op.

I am sure there are about a million more, since everything this man does is a sick joke.

But Kerry himself has had trouble with pushing the humor envelope.

"Somebody told me the other day that the Secret Service has orders that if George Bush is shot, they're to shoot Quayle," Kerry joked in 1988. The Massachusetts Democrat then said, "There isn't any press here, is there?"

Why should we patronize Drudge's site? I wouldn't take anything Drudge says about Kerry as truth, particularly after the non-stop smears that included a FALSE report of an affair.

If Kerry said this (and I don't think it's nearly in the same ballpark as Bush's comment, BTW), it should be available somewhere other than Drudge (or World Net Daily). Let's see a credible source.

16. Tweety was in surprisingly rare form

Tweety asked the Pug Shill if Smirk would be willing to tell those jokes to the soldiers wounded in Iraq. Tweet apparently has spent some time in a military hospital and will be doing an Iraqi Wounded story this week. I'm assuming the experience of seeing the human toll of Smirk's madness has given Tweety a new perspective. He was uncharacteristically pissed at Smirk for lying about WMD's as the basis for war. I admit to applauding Tweety today...he took a step towards the light.

42. Matthews is a republican
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once upon a time, George W. Bush suffered under the stigma that his younger brother, Jeb, was the smarter of the two. So you might not expect the president to draw such distinctions when speaking of other prominent people's brothers. But during a visit last week to promote home ownership in Montgomery County, Pa., here's how Bush introduced Jim Matthews, chairman of the county commission and younger brother of MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews:
"Chairman, I'm glad you're here." Then the prez observed: "He is the smart brother." The crowd laughed.
Bush called it "an inside joke." Jim Matthews, a Republican Party activist and former mortgage banker, said he didn't consider it a slight against his older brother, who worked for top-dog Democrats for 15 years -- including stints with President Jimmy Carter and House Speaker Tip O'Neill -- before becoming a louder-than-life TV talker.
<snip>
Truth be told, both brothers (who look so much alike "it's scary," says Jim) voted for Bush in 2000. "Chris has said Bush was the first Republican he voted for for president," Jim told us. "I think it was disappointment with his long-term friend Al Gore. I think he voted for Bush because he was more true to himself and who he was than Al Gore was. I'm proud of that."
Also, as another poster pointed out, the 'joke' not only was a slap to the face of American soldiers fighting in Iraq, but also a kick to the throat of all Americans. You see, two nights ago, *hole and company showed the world just how gullible and stupid a large segment of this country is.
How many of dubya's fiasco's have gone unnoticed much less unpunished?
If the shoe were on the other foot and Clinton was making jokes about the brave dead the neo-cons couldn't find enough tar and feathers to suit them.
This arrogance will be bush's downfall. He's gotten way with crap that would have impeached God himself.
But these misdeeds are adding up.
The Ambassador Wilson/ Valerie Plame CIA outing
Paul O'Neill's assertion that Iraq was first and formeost on bush's mind from day one in the White House.
Now we have Richard Clarke's book asserting pretty much the same thing and going even further into the machinations of the bush cartel.
One of the most respected unpartisan gentleman in Wsahington is now feeling the full fury of the bush attack machine.
But we have have heard it all before and so has John Q. Public. I think the people of this nation are finally shaking away the cobwebs
and coming to. Won't it be fun to watch bush's concession speech.
To be fair about it, it wasn't a smart move by the President. There are no excuses in my book. Another example of giving the loyal opposition more ammunition to use against the Bush campaign. Dumb.
I guess you've never heard of the traditional October surprise?
Do you really think President Bush is that dumb? Every single time the Dems "get ammunition" against him it blows up in their face.
Now, I don't KNOW anything for sure, but I'm pretty confident that there has been WMDs found, and they haven't been reported yet. Before you ask, here's several possibilities.
-Once found there was so much that it is taking this long to catalog it all.
-Some have been found and they don't want to tip off HVT's possibly still hiding in Iraq that we have them.
-They know where they are and are waiting to spring them when the Political advantage is maximized.
Or I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.
63. Give me a break
Cmon guys.. It was a Joke. We dont need to be wasting Time and enegery trying to nail Bush over it. There are other more serious things we could be doing. The correspondence dinner has been known for such self-knocking jokes. He wasnt hurting anybody but himself.
And Kerry's joke about killing qualye was just a joke too. But if your going to take things serioulsy, Take both of them seriously. Lets cut the partisan Crap. If we are gonig to beat Bush then we need to stop grasping at straws and focus on more important issues.... I just got back from Afgan.. and I dont take offense to it. Lets move along
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 05:12 PM by cat_girl25
people die everyday because of his damn lies. This is not partisan crap. Only the bush buttkissers don't want to talk about this. And I don't believe you just got back from Afgan. I don't know who in the hell you think you're fooling. Try another message board where the bush buttkissing is good. You won't find that here.
BUSH IS A DISGRACE!
66. wow
Ok, If you want to spend all your time trying to bash Bush over this.. go for it.. But dont say i didnt warn you.. As far as your moranic acusations about bush buttkissing. If you would have actually read the post thoroughly you would have say that im not buttkissing but simply pointing out that this isnt a issue that we need to be fighting over. Its pointless.. As far as you not believing i served in Afgan. I couldnt really care less if you believe me or not. I did my time. But alas. This is my last post here. I got better things to be doing with my time then people arguing my service.... By the way.. Did you know Kerry was in vietnam?
65. Mustang ..Welcome Home
But...you were not in Iraq and the Afgan war is where some believe we should have been..not on trumped lies about WMD's in Iraq. The body count and body bags are too high in Iraq to joke about.1 is too high. Was he joking when he said, This would be a heck of a lot easier if this were a dictatorship and but only if I was the dictator? Was he joking when he showed pics of him in a jump suit recently hanging out with true military personnel in Alabama ,,saying this should stop the democrats saying I was never in Alabama. How many people have to die for this JOKER? My husband was with the 101st in Vietnam..while Monkey Boy was drunk somewhere between Alabama and Texas. Someone's son, father, brother, sister, Mom, thought they were keeping America safe from WMD's and this JOKER is looking under his desk for them in jest for political grins. As my Mama used to say. There is a time and a place and always use good taste. He did neither. He is the joke..He is the punchline...
If Trent Lott could lose his spot for his remark...then George Bush needs to be censured for his ! I won't lighten up...How do you ask a person, Are you ready to be the last person to die in Iraq? Using Kerry's analagy.
Tell the familes of the dead who don't even get a decent greeting or honor for their dead coming home at Dover for their bodies to be buried that Monkeyboy was joking. I think the laughter has ceased !
67. Thanks!
I guess im a little imune to that. One of the first things they trained us was not to ask why. but to do. When i signed up for the Army I took that chance. I dont have the luxury of asking why im there. All i am told is what im supposed to do while im there. And even though i dont agree with the reasoning for going to war. Its my job nonetheless.
But the only point i was trying to make is. No one outside the Core democrat scene is going to care about bush's joke. So its a waste of enegery in my opinion. Thats all i was trying to say.
72. Let's say that if people can't see
how he is mocking them and not being 'self-deprecating', we are in serious trouble.
Yes, there are more serious issues to treat.
And by the way, welcome to DU!:hi:
