Poll: Good news/bad news for Bush (and for us too, I guess)
The Bushies' smear against Clarke seems to be working so far. The Newsweek poll out tonight shows that there are more people who have questions about Clarke's motivations than there are those whom he has reached with his criticism.

Half of the respondents said they paid some or a lot of attention to Clarke's testimony to the 9/11 Commission.

Only 25% call Clarke "a dedicated public servant speaking out about government mistakes" compared to 50% who say "he is motivated by personal and political reasons"

Only 17% say Clarke has made them feel "less favorable toward Bush" while 65% said it hasn't made a difference.

Only 42% say "the attention that the Bush Administration has given to Iraq has seriously distracted from the Administration's efforts to fight terrorism generally," compared to 47% who say it hasn't.

All in all the Bush propaganda machine seems to be doing its work pretty good. As bad as they've fucked up and as bad as the news is coming out day after day, about half the country is standing behind Bush. Whatever we have to do, it's not been enough. They're holding their own in the face of an unprecedented administrative meltdown.

His support is ebbing a bit. The hopeful news is that approval for how Bush handles the war on terror is down a bit. In February it was
65%-28%, with the latter number being those who disapprove of his handling the war (but that's probably split between those who think he's being too doctrinaire and those who don't think he's doing enough. Now it's down to 57%-38%. A majority is still being bamboozled. We're not doing enough.

Talk to your friends, coworkers, family members today. Spread the meme: this president is a screw up. We have to replace him with someone who can think clearly and not overlook clear dangers for ideological reasons.

Your country is counting on you.

3. Is this the same poll that only had 25% dems?
Looks like it. The way the results are presented, you can't tell what percentage of the total sample was Dems, but on the Newsweek site, they specified that 265 of the sample were "Democrats or Democratic leaners"

That's about half what it should be in a representative poll, according to national surveys of the party affiliation and independants leaning to one party or another.

I'm too tired to repeat it all here, but there's more info on this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=1303517

5. Even if flawed, it's still the sort of thing that will influence people...

People get on bandwagons....How an organization can put together a sample like that is almost criminal....or just part of the media plot.

If nothing else, it seems to me that this indicates a need for a campaigner who will keep pounding these issues, with crediblity. Because if we don't, when Osama is paraded around, and the Saddam trial begins, we'll be way behing the PR machine.

Wes Clark as VP. Who else can it be?

6. I'm part of the 65% who's opinion of Bush hasn't been changed
by Clarke's revelations. If photographic evidence of Bush having sex with a donkey were given me, my opinion still wouldn't change. IMO Bush is a vile scumsucking, smirking frat-boy jerk in way over his head.

Clarke only reaffirms what I already know and believe. That 65% is not made up only of Bush supporters.

Secondly, the issue with Clarke is only just warming up and judging by the response of the White House, they're not exactly handling it well. Little by little, Bush's credibility is eroding. It wasn't that long ago that it was only being questioned by very few of us.
