What voting system does CA use?
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 10:54 AM by jiacinto
How do people in California vote? What type of machine do they use? My question specifically involves the machiens. Are they punch card ballots or the scantron machines?

I am just wondering how the officials are going to put all the names on the one ballot. I know in India, when they have elections, hundreds of candidates are running. And somehow they fit it on the ballot.

And do different counties have different systems?

1. Different counties have different systems
I have no idea how they're going to deal with the recall madness.

4. I live in Mariposa County
Mariposa is sparsely populated Bush country. I voted on a large paper ballot in 2002 that was(I believe) optically scanned.

3. in '02 I voted by marking a paper with a pen
and the poll workers wouldn't even let me leave until I verified/witnessed that my ballot was indeed placed in the box with the others...

However, according to Bev, I live in damn near the ONLY county in CA that has not either switched over to Diebold, or is in the process of doing so...

:grr:

I blast-faxed my reps the entire text of the Johns Hopkins study, as well as the NYT piece that came out, and may be doing so again

word is getting around, but I fear that nothing much will change in time for the recall

5. Arnold's votes will be pumped up!
Arnold will rely on old fashion vote counting done with black box systems at military bases overseas. Expect over 100,000 votes for Arnold to arrive from absentee methods.

6. Some of the large counties use Votomatic punch cards
There is a case being brought before the CA Supreme Court challenging the punch cards based on margin of error. I think it's one of the cases that will be decided today.

Also, Votomatic is a fixed system that allows for no more than 312 candidates. It will be interesting to see what happens if they get to the 400 as projected.

If you click on the first link, 2002 election, it will show you the variety of systems used in CA. in 2002
