Question: If "your" candidate doesn't get the nomination will you..? |
|
A) Back the nominee (Assuming, of course that it isn't Lieberman in which case we are all screwed)
B) If the nominee then loses (by fair means or foul) will you be as vociferous in your outrage or would you fall into the "My guy/gal woulda won" category?
The reason I ask is because there is such a huge volume of venom being hurled at other people's favourites (me included to a degree) that I wonder if we (meaning Dems as a group, and DU'ers particularly) would somehow magically solidify our collective support behind one candidate come what may.
Obviously Karl et al, are praying that the Dems spend so much of their warchests beating on each other and slinging mud about that the eventual Democratic candidate is so battered and bloodied, and more importantly broke, that an effective challenge to the usurper-in-thief is a virtual impossibility...
The bottom line is that if we can't, our disagreements about semantics won't mean a damn thing, except for making interesting conversations around the Gulag fires....
Thoughts?

2. Can someone tell me one reason why I would want another 4 years with Bush? |
|
When someone can give me a good reason then I'll support someone other than the democrat.
Lieberman won't appoint hardcore right-wing ideologues for his judicial nominees and those appointments are lifetime appointments. He's stuck with the filibuster each and everytime. For that I'll vote for Lieberman with a smile on my face SHOULD he be the democratic nomination.
But up until that point I'll be fighting for the candidate of my choice which for now is Dean!

Anyone who says they won't back whoever the nominee is should be banned from DU.
I mean, what the hell are they here for anyway?

9. I don't know if I would be able to vote for Lieberman, |
|
but if he is the nominee, I will know we are just as screwed as if Bush was in. It would mean the bad guys totally own the process, and even if Lieberman wouldn't put on total right-wing assholes on the courts, we would still be slaves getting sold down the river. Just not quite as far down the river as before.

15. Nay, I can appreciate where you come from but... |
|
Lieberman would not be appointing people like Ashcroft, Powell, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rice, Rumsfeld, Poindexter, Negrapointe, ah that list can go on and on....
Lieberman would not appoint judicial nominees like Patricia Owens, Charles Pickering, Miguel Estrada, Carolyn Kuhl, and Bill Pryor. Four of these nominees are in the middle of filibusters and Lieberman supported the dems in filibustering.
Lieberman has, on an average, a 90% rating with the League of Conservation Voters (environment), would Bush have a similiar type rating if he was in office.
Lieberman is pro-choice, is Bush?
Now to be honest, I've said absolutely NOTHING to convince me that Lieberman IS the best choice for the Democratic nominee. He rates EXTREMELY low on my list.
But if Lieberman were to be the nomination, these and many many other reason have convinced me that we'll still be better of with Lieberman than we ever will with another four years of George W. Bush!!!

30. Even if it were to be Lieberman, he would have a vice-president |
|
Maybe he would choose one of our favorites as his running mate. We could live with that. Anything would be better than what we now have.

We need to get this right! I will back whatever Dem gets the nomination. Is Joe my favorite -- no, but if he get the nomination I will back him. If is is the Dem. Senator next time around I will vote for him again. Do I want another choice, yes. I would like to see Bill Curry go after Joe's job, but that is another discussion, another day.

I mean I've been defending Lieberman against some stuff that gets thrown around here, and most of the others are even better. So I will be happy to vote for whomever is nominated. Although I haven't backed anyone yet.

18. I'll be working hard for the whole Democratic ticket |
|
I'll be working hard for the whole Democratic ticket. Like it or not it is a two-party system. When I was young I had the idealistic belief that parties didn't matter, it was all about the candidate. And before Clinton, I kinda thought there was no difference between the parties. The corporations have all the power, both parties are in bed with the corporations, etc. But the evidence of the past 11 years is undeniable. 8 years of Clinton, who I always thought of as the ultimate in a corrupt, charismatic, corporate Democrat. And no one can deny it, the Clinton years were good years for this country. And 3 years (seems like a lifetime) of Bush. The damage Bush has done to this country is incredible and the problems undeniable. So it is hard for me to still go along with the idea that there is no difference between the parties, or that it doesn't matter who wins. The Republicans have also been in control on the state level here for many years and they are running this state into the ground. It matters alot who wins. We need Democrats to win at all levels. It doesn't matter to me how they stand on any issue or all the issues. Just by the fact that they are Democrats means they are on my side. We are going to be willing to talk to each and explore each other ideas cuz we are together in the same party working to make things better. Whoever ends up representing my side on the ballot gets my vote and my support. One thing I've learned in Montana is that politics is all about showing up. If more Democrats than Republicans show up on Election Day we win.

if none of the acceptable ones becomes the nominee. I won't support any Democrat who voted for the Iraq war resolution. There are other issues as well, of course. Only Kucinich, Dean, Sharpton, & Mosely-Braun are at all acceptable to me, & I'm not particularly crazy about Dean.

even a right wing nutball like Lieberman is better than the even further right-wing nutball Bush.
Let's hope it doesn't come to picking between one holy roller or another. Bush and Lieberman both insert 'god' into their speeches, which makes them look foolish and hurts their credibility.

every time since 1976. It's a matter of religion with me.
That being said it will suck if I vote knowing I am pulling the lever for a loser. The feeling I felt in 80, 84, and 88.

Yes, even Holy Joe, although it would hurt my delicate sensibilities. Moot point, though. He won't get the nomination.
Although, I'm not a supporter of the guy, I have to admit that I kinda like him. In every interview I've seen of Lieberman, he's been funny and smart. Nothing personal, Joe. I just would rather not see you as our president.
