Who's the most "Wellstonian" Dean or Kucinich?
Howard Dean and Paul Wellstone are both scored "Moderate Liberals"
(See bottom of score card*)

And, Lieberman and Kuchinich are both scored "Moderate Liberal Populists"

So politically speaking Dean is closer to Wellstone then Kucinich. And Kucinich is closer to Lieberman then Dean...

OK, have at it!

Issues2002 score cards below.

1. only problem is the issues2000 rating system is very weird
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 10:20 PM by ButterflyBlood
it only works for libertarians. They treat being pro-immigration as being a conservative stance, vouchers as a liberal one, and a wierd converse on the military spending and missle defense system. it's good to look up a candidate's individual stances but the grid shouldn't be taken too seriously.

for example, we could have a Democrat from a rural district. He's moderately pro-choice, moderate pro-gay, ect. but he's also pro-vouchers and pro-gun, in favor of "faith based initiatives" and wants to significantly cut down on immigration. He'd be labled as more liberal than Wellstone.

2. You Must Be kidding!
Kucinich is much closer to Paul Wellstone than Dean.

Dean is an admitted middle of the roader.

Kucinich is a Democrat!

3. That really doesnt have a lot of the issues on it
and Wellstone's chief of staff took offense to that, and Wellstone and Kucinich are in the same cancus, not sure if Dean would be if he were a congressman. I would say Kucinich and Wellstone are more alike politically than Dean and Wellstone. If Welltone's former chief of staff knows the difference, I think I can trust him more so.

5. Well Wellstone has always had a strong record of supporting choice...
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 10:27 PM by gully
and, as a Minnesotan who worked for the Wellstone campaign, I think Wellstone was one of a kind.

I really don't like anybody hijacking Paul Wellstones name personally. But, I will watch to see if wellstone.org backs any of the primary candidates?

Dennis Kucinich on the record...

Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad. (May 2001)

Voted YES on barring transporting minors to get an abortion. (Jun 1999)

He also...

Voted YES on Constitutional amendment prohibiting Flag Desecration. (Jul 2001)

I don't find these positions to be 'progressive'...

6. Wellstone compares more favorably to Feingold and Durbin
Two other progressive Midwestern senators. I don't think that any of the candidates is even close to Wellstone.

10. I don't like the comparison...
Call me nuts, but I think Wellstone was 'offed' because he was a fighter and he stood out amongst his colleagues. Wouldn't want them libruls getting wild ideas, eh? I guess that's why I'm a little bit apprehensive about Dean. I HATE being so paranoid, but it's almost a necessity these days in order to brace yourself against the Bush junta, just so the shock and outrage doesn't kill you.

I'll just say that IMHO, I think Dean is the most appealing liberal since Clinton (and Wellstone, of course). There are only 3 presidential candidates who've really stood out in my lifetime: Reagan, Clinton, and now Dean. I came along too late to appreciate Kennedy.
