My friend needs help!
her name (should I convince her she needs to turn to us) will be ESMERELDAra. She is a phish, hippie liberal and votes with us out of instinct....
she told me the other day that she wants to be more politically informed so that she doesn't sound like some emotional cow when she disagrees with these people at cocktail hour... she said they don't understand the arguement that we would all understand about why we chose to be liberals.... her arguement thus far as been "becuase it's the right thing to do, think, believe"
... you get it and I get it but we all know that arguement doesn't appeal to "them".
I tried to tell her not to talk to them but she says she kind of likes being preachy.

1. Maybe you should suggest to your friend to
argue why she isn't a conservative, thereby defining what she believes makes a person liberal.

Here's a link to a study done at Berkeley on what makes a political conservative. She could use these as talking points.

2. She needs a lot of help
She needs to read. She needs to know what their arguments are going to be and have the right answer on the tip of her tongue. I have no idea where to start...

3. I know...
that's why I think I'm going to convince her to join DU.... because she can ask honest questions and be answered without feeling inept.

4. this place will be completely overwhelming
to someone who doesn't even know why she's a liberal. I'll try to find a good link to liberal issues...

6. I disagree
I have a feeling she knows why she's a liberal but isn't able to articulate it as yet to conservatives. It can be intimidating to some people when they aren't used to expressing personal political, moral or ethical views in public. And we all know some of the tactics that some conservatives use in debate. DU could be a very valuable source for her. Sometimes just getting a handle on subjects and arming yourself with facts is more than enough.

And she would be warmly welcomed here too. :hi:
