Controversy Rages as TV Show Lists U.S. War Dead
Our goal tonight was to elevate the fallen above the politics and the daily journalism," he said at the end of the program. "The reading of those 721 names was neither intended to provoke opposition to the war nor as an endorsement."

Koppel said he was not opposed to the war in Iraq, launched in March 2003 to oust Saddam Hussein .

"I am opposed to sustaining the illusion that war can be waged by the sacrifice of a few without burdening the rest of us in any way. I oppose the notion that to be at war is to forfeit the right to question, criticize or debate our leaders' policies," he said.

1. I watched all 40 min. of it, very moving. The use of the long rows of
flag draped coffins (Which we were not allow to see...by order of our govt)for the pictureless fallen was quite impactful. I watched grimmised in my head and wondered if my boss at works face will soon appear on that list. He claims the order will come in any day now to ship him off to Iraq. He only has a few years left to serve in the guard to collect full retirement bennies.

2. Is Your Local Affiliate Owned By Sinclair?
I will make copies available to anyone who lives in an area where the program was censored by a Sinclair affiliate. All that's asked is the cost of a tape, mailer, and postage - I'm guessing somewhere around $6.

(Please, don't ask if it was on in your area and you just forgot to tape it.)

3. Headlines like this have absolutely shocked me over the past few days.
So, it's a "controversy" to talk about, and pay homage to, the 730+ U.S. soldiers who have given their lives in the War against Iraq, but it is, apparently, not a "controversy" that they were even put into such a tragic postion to begin with?

Calling attention to their lost lives is "controversial," but the fact that they are dead is not "controversial."

What has happened to my country?

4. I watched part of it
and I'm afraid I don't understand why it's controversial. How could anyone possibly have a problem with it? What's the argument against it?
