OK, Who watched Nightline last night?
I'm in columbus and my local fascist sinclair station WSYX refused to air it. So I wrote like 30 letters to them while the show was supposed to be on. When it was time for the show to come on, it was pre-empted by the head of Shitclair reading their statement--I didn't want them to get the ratings so I shut it off.

Was it unpatriotic like the reading of the 911 victims names? Or maybe the OKC bombing victims names?

an angry failure this morning.

10. nothing...but that's how the other side characterizes it...as diluting
the sacrifice our soldiers have made. I certainly don't think it's unpatriotic...sorry you thought that from my post.

extrapolating from the freep's explanation, then the Vietnam memorial dilutes the sacrifice also.

6. If You're So Inclined...
...just to be a jerk...why not send Mr. Station Manager and Mr. Smith, the CEO of Sinclair, 700 or so letters or emails...one with the name, rank and picture of each soldier that's died for their partisan and corporate greed. Then keep updating...sadly, each day we add 2 or 3 or 10 names to that list.

Part of me is glad to see Sinclair and Cheap Channel so overplay their partisan hands. Last year, they almost got approval to go on another wild buying spree...that Michael Powell and Billy Tauzin rammed through the FCC and Congress, but was stopped and is still chillin' (a major reason these companies want so desperately for Chimpster to win and win big). With this boorish action, there's no way Sinclair or News Corp. will get their dream of even greater media domination. Now to replace the FCC and re-examine (as was required every 5 years in the '96 Dereg bill) the "deregulation" of broadcasting.

12. that's a great idea. I'm gonna do it.
I'm curious to see if these partisan fucks lose bigtime on their decision to plunge america deeper into the dark realms of fascism.

7. political eh?
What's more shameful? that honoring our fallen soldiers is declared unpatriotic or that the truth hurts the Republicans so much.

9. it was well done,....
classy, and appropriate. They did the right thing by honoring our troops who absolutely deserve to be recognized for their service. I watched it with a very heavy heart.

The fascists who refused to air this are traitors, cowards, and the lowest form of scum. They should be hung by their necks (with the administration) from the "mission acccomplished" flightdeck.

13. You have a Nielsen ratings box?
If you don't have one, or a diary you mail in to tell what you watch, they have no idea if you are watching a program ----so don't worry.

I can't sit still for 40 minutes like that. I need smaller doses of the dead and wounded. (I need it sanitized, I guess. Physically, I can't handle the overwhelming sensation of death, like on 9-11.) At the end of The Newshour with Jim Lehrer, we stood up for the reading of the names. As Koppel was reading them, I can remember seeing those names on the list, or reading them on The NewsHour.

The program was well done, and Koppel made an excellent closing statement.

19. I made myself watch it

what other ways do i have to honor them, since i can't mourn them when they are returned to the country in secret, as if we are supposed to be ashamed of them?

we have had so many young men & women from south texas killed in this war. i recognized so many of the names that i've seen written about in the paper.

i met a friend at the grocery store this morning & he was telling me about how his mom in orange county, ca was all upset over the ONE person from there that had died...he said, "mom, do you have any idea how many young white, black, and hispanic young men & women from south texas have died ALREADY? and you wonder why we're tired and want our kids to come home?"

well, i'm going to do my part. i'm going to start saving up my $$ to buy flags to plant in my front yard. if anyone wants to kick in, let me know.

20. Is the Vietnam War Memorial "unpatriotic"?
It's unconscionable to claim that memorializing the names of the dead is somehow "wrong." Sinclair should rot in hell!

Yes, I watched Nightline. Start etching another memorial on the mall.

23. I'm so angry about this. I've appeared on my local Sinclair-owned
stations several times, and my company USED to advertise there. USED to advertise there. I wonder if we could generate a generic form letter to Sinclair sponsors/advertisers asking them not to support Sinclairs nationwide censorship and refusal to honor our fallen men and women who've paid the ultimate price for this dirty little war.

25. I started watching it - made it through @ 20 minutes and then ...
I fell asleep.... I REALLY wanted to hear Kopple's comments at the end but oh well .... any comments on how it ended ? I hate I missed it. I thought it was really powerful and a great tribute. You could feel their families send of loss - what wonderful men and women - We must honor their service even if we don't believe in this war.

27. Excellent show - wonderful tribute
My wife and I Tivo'd the show so we could excise the commercials.

We're both veterans and we sat and didn't move for the entire show.

Very moving, very poignant and not a touch of political rancor.

Those that protested this show are more concerned with the political fallout that may occur once the American public (hello, is this mic on?) wakeup and realize that real people are really dying over there.

I kept my emotions in check until they showed one guy kissing his newborn baby. Then I couldn't hold back the tears....

This show should be aired continuously until the war is over.
