BBV dominoes going rat-tat-tat: Four e-vote lawsuits now in play
Edited on Sat May-01-04 02:23 PM by BevHarris
1. California, lurching along, for false advertising, against Diebold, plaintiffs Jim March, Bev Harris on behalf of BlackBoxVoting.org's California members, Jim Hamilton, Jody Holder, more.

2. Florida, Robert Wexler, because you can't recount a touch screen

3. Maryland (will have text of this up on BlackBoxVoting.org shortly) because the Diebold touch screens misfired in Maryland in the March election; for more, see TrueVoteMD.org

4. Washington, demanding decertification of GEMS 1.18.18 and requirement to certify Diebold optical scan software before the next election. Preliminary hearing May 14; plaintiffs Andy Stephenson and Bev Harris on behalf of BlackBoxVoting.org's Washington members.

Watch the dominoes fall...

P.S. More dominoes falling: E-voting systems scrapped in Venezuela, Ireland, Phillippines, California: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1510062

And still more dominoes: 2 pending criminal investigations now http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1510082

5. Damit! Where's Ga. in this?
We've had these things for several elections, and there have been unprovable accusations made. I keep trying, but the Pubs hold all the offices and nobody wants to hear it.

Georgia should have gone out with a public lawsuit months ago
A different course of action was chosen.

There are several very good activists there, and by the way, those pushing for the paper ballot in Georgia are the Republicans, being blocked by the Democrats.

6. Is Indiana still considering forcing ES&S to pay millions
from a bond set up to cover costs for problems? A few weeks ago there was quite a buzz due to problems due to machines used in the last elections.

7. Indiana is somewhat grudgingly going forward
Kind of like California was back in November and December 2002.

If more revelations follow, or ES&S joins Diebold in the Black Box Shuffle, I think Indiana will turn.

8. The issue emerged from nowhere - from a news consumption
perspective. BOOM! I don't think most hoosiers even knew there was a controversy that was coming to a slow boil.

One or two more problems - and I think you are right - it will boil into public view. Hoosiers are quite pragmatic - slow to roil - rooted in common sense - and still believing in common decency of individuals and businesses (except for those who keep voting for Dan Burton)... As a whole - when realizing they have been "duped" the reaction is generally pretty strong - and nonpartisan. Thus more news stories come out - and if it appears aggregious to the public - the public pressure will emerge to push things forward. Strong sentiments about fiscal soundness abound.. and the idea of continuing to pay for/buy equipment that is faulty and or fraudulent would not get much play in Indiana (as it might under the auspices of "we have already invested too much, and must continue to move forward" in other states... like... Florida.)

9. CA's Secretary of State
Edited on Sat May-01-04 03:05 PM by mzpip
wanted to decertify 10 other counties that had Diebold but disabled voters and non-English speaking voters gave "compelling arguments."

Someone should inform the disabled community and non-English speaking voters that making voting easier doesn't necessarily make it better.
