Hardball: Sometimes Bill Maher...
Edited on Mon May-03-04 02:25 AM by Zinfandel
"I‘m not even talking about the decision to go into Iraq, which, you know, doesn‘t look so good nowadays.

I‘m looking at this news about Fallujah, and I hear what President Bush is saying. Do you remember

'Baghdad Bob,' the guy we all laughed at because he was saying things that were completely crazy?

Well, President Bush sounds like Washington Bob right now. He‘s saying, “It‘s only a few troublemakers.

It‘s a few rotten eggs that we‘re fighting over there.” Are you kidding? Is he joking?"

(snip)

"Why are you covering this? Why are you taking this bait, seriously? Why are you even letting them bait you into covering this complete non-issue? This guy has medals. This guy has ribbons.

The other guy didn‘t go. That‘s the whole story. The other guy is a draft dodger.

One of them went to where the bullets were flying and one of them found a way not to go and then he lied about that."

Really gets it right!

1. A lot of people are quick to give Maher shit
Because he usually hits both sides, as he is not exactly a Democrat, but rather more of a Libertarian/Liberal.

But I love hearing what he has to say, and he always says what he believes.

3. And he seems to be focusing on *, at present...
... with fewer attacks on Dems. He sees the problem we're faced with and knows there's only one route out. He's even suggested that Nader stay out of it this year.

5. I enjoy Bill Maher
but it strikes me he often bases his opinions on common innacuracies..

For example, he voted for NAder in 2000 to party build.

in 1996 at a live show, he made a comment on voting for the GOP being good due to their superior economic polices..

If he doesn;t know, he goes with the flow. That is my problem with him.

Whe he takes the time, he is great at slicing an issue down the middle and satirizing ht eliving hell out of it.

Convenient Democracy

Both Iraq and Afghanistan are taking baby steps toward democracy, which has to be a good thing, although sometimes you wonder if they’re really serious about it or they’re just going through the motions in hopes that we’ll leave.

For example, take what Afghan president Hamid Karzai said during an event to mark International Women’s Day: "Please, my dear brothers, let your wives and sisters go to the voter registration process. Later, you can control who she votes for, but please, let her go."

Translation: Just play along with the Westerners, eventually they’ll get bored with this silly women’s rights crapola and they’ll go find some other country to invade.

7. He's right. He's right, he's right, he's right.
I don't always agree with Maher but the man nailed this interview.

Way to go, Bill.
