When Kerry wins, what happens in Iraq |
|
Do you honestly think Kerry will pull all troops out and turn it over to the Iraqi government. Not likely. What is the next step when Kerry comes into office.
Is it a small peacekeeping force, led by the UN? Is it complete withdrawal?

1. somewhere in the middle. |

I can honestly hope that he won't continue this idiotic "stay the course" shit that bush spouts, and maybe work for a real resolution.
the problem is, by the time he gets into office, he won't be able to undo all the privatization and corporate whoring that is being put into place now.

6. Assuming Kerry wins... |

...and there's no assurance at all about that, so don't you gleeful posters get complacent and lazy all of a sudden...
I'd like to see Kerry announce an orderly plan for withdrawal. He would not deliver a "mea culpa" for what the previous administration had done. He would simply say "We are commencing a careful, cautious withdrawal from Iraq. We will certainly continue to suffer losses, but the end of this sad chapter of our history is in sight."
Hopefully, he already has someone familiar with the situation to start the planning for this event...now. I think he would almost have to involve other Middle Eastern countries to supervise the process. I have no idea who - Kerry isn't going to have friends in the House of Saud, for example. But it isn't likely that Iraqui citizens are going to tolerate any non-Islamic peacekeepers.
Long-term, and this would have to be done to the American people up-front, Kerry should break the dependence America has on oil. Push hybrid vehicles, investigate alternate energy sources and the like. Make it a matter of patriotism to Americans - explain how the need for oil has warped our national priorities and driven us to ugly wars and alliances.
Of course, I'm mostly blowing this out of the hole on top of my head.
