what would you have done? would you expose this particular instance of depravity to the world, knowing that the only way to keep these things from happening is transparency and accountability? or would you burn them, knowing they would be very likely to increase the intensity of ill-will toward americans, and knowing they would likely lead to an increase in attacks against americans and their allies in the near future?

because the people who did this must be brought to justice, and it must serve as a warning to those who think of doing so in the future.

The release of the photos is not the cause of ill-will toward Americans. It is the events documented by those photos that cause the ill-will.

3. The big question is . . .

How long has bush and Rumsfeld known about all of this as well as all the rapes of Iraqi women by American soldiers. The photos are from November, so bush must have known for quite sometime . . . Is there going to be a bipartisan investigation into this?

Shouldn't bush be held accountable for this as commander in chief or does he pass the buck.

4. Either our actions are right or we are wrong

If we cannot represent ourselves in the best or face the consequences of our actions openly then we have lost. War is not fluffy. War is not fun. It is the total break down of civility. It is the worst thing we can do. If the cause of such hostility does not meet the cost then it is not warranted. If we are no improvement of their plight then it is not warranted.

i'm a utilitarian, essentially. what is right, in any given situation, is what causes the least harm (or does the most good.) i'm not sure what i would have done. i would probably have released them. probably.
