Has bush *ever* been in the physical presence of non-supporters?

I was just reading The Nation's article on how alleged liberal college students were turned away from a bush rally in kalamazoo....

then it occurred to me that i couldn't recall a specific time where bush was around people who didn't like him. can anyone recall such an episode?

1. No.. well almost.

Early on, he had the "who cares what YOU think" incident. That was the last time anyone got near him. He's deathly afraid of the real people.. I think he's deathly afraid of being assualted somehow.. I keep thinking of how he wears body armor when he speaks outdoors at the White House Rose Garden. I thought it seemed so weird.. what is he afraid of? I think he agreed to be the puppet president for the Halliburton company contingency, and they had to promise that he would never be harmed in any way... So I think the avoidance of real people is 1) totally political 2) Fear and protection. 3) A way to avoid his lightning fast, brutal temper and loose lips.

2. Yes when he visited Hawaii

Mostly he had no choice and the Honolulu PD said, that due to a resolution in the State Legislature, they could not enforce the unpatriot act

3. Only one springs to mind

Shrubs encounter with Bill Hangley Jr. where he famously said "Who cares what you think?"

It has been almost three years since I spoke with the president of the United States, and I still get mail about it.

It was July 4, 2001, and we were both at one of those things that the late historian Daniel Boorstin would have labeled a "pseudo event": a church picnic in Philadelphia, designed to help promote George W. Bush's faith-based policies. Because I had serious misgivings about the president's performance to that point, my own involvement in the whole operation had left me feeling a bit like a pseudo person, so when I had the chance to shake Bush's hand, I said, "Mr. President, I hope you only serve one term. I'm very disappointed in your work so far."

In retrospect, it's an excellent question. I made a list, and it's pretty short: My family cares what I think. My friends care. My various employers have cared at various times, as have a generous handful of teachers and mentors. But that's about it. In the big picture, I'm nobody from nowhere, and the marketplace for my ideas is pretty slim.

Remember when he was inaugarated? instead of being greeted by lines of supporters in D.C. he was greeted by people who protested his stealing of the election and threw eggs and tomatoes at his limo?


I guess after that the overall sentiment was "just don't let anyone who doesn't like him near him"
